Isn't marrying somebody's daughter about the most open way possible to announce that you want to penetrate somebody in the family?

Always interesting to see how documents like this become public-- Syria's version of Wikileaks:

The guy was apparently killed basically by accident.
They portray an organization that, while seemingly driven by religious fanaticism, is actually coldly calculating.
Are these two things really that distinct? The "seems x, but is actually y? phrasing is strange because, at least in my experience, x and y tend to go together more often than not.
