Encouraging the kid to try something musical is more my wife's line than mine. I'm mostly trying to get him not to shout advice to Ash on the TV.
Ok, now there's two voices in this thread.
A little after the 6 minute mark,
Lalah Hathaway sings a chord. It's not the same kind of note splitting but it's beautiful, and so's her whole song. May have been linked here before.
Woops, second link should have been this one.
The links in the OP are interesting, and collectively give a nice demonstration of the relationship between acoustic and articulatory phonetics.
teofilo, that is a very cool observation that is going to go down super well with my kid! I should figure out how to get real time conversational tips from you for the dinner table. Feel like increasingly have only a vague idea what the kid is talking about.
Might be a good party trick. I wanted to learn circular breathing for a party trick but it seemed too hard. One person I know had "conducting with one hand in 3/4 and the other in 4/4" as a party trick.
I can transpose of piece of music from 4/4 time to 3/4 time, but it makes for a really messy piece of music as there isn't a common notation for 3/4th of a quarter note.
Smearcase, that is the tragedy of the breakup of Stimmhorn - they had it all! Overtone singing, circular breathing AND a plentiful array of Alpenhorn!
