My schedule is wide open. I'll definitely try to make it whenever we decide on.
If an actual Knifecrimean is going to be there, I retract my recent suggestion for the next DC meetup.
Not sure what I'll be able to make next week but will try to join whatever's worked out.
Like I said in the other thread, my schedule is flexible. I'll happily defer to others' preference. Per the other thread, I think Dupont is probably easiest, since it's near ttaM.
I might be able to come out for Sunday or Friday. Other days unlikely.
I think Friday is probably my preference, as Sunday evening I'm likely to be knackered, as it'll be some ridiculous time UK time, and I won't have adjusted.
Belatedly chiming in here to say that I will be in DC on Monday (5/4) if perchance anyone is around for an evening meetup.
I'm around. Fridays I have an 8PM thing, unfortunately, so either early or late. Monday maybe.
I may be free Monday. I have a day time thing, all day, but may be free in the evening.
Friday still the preferred day for a general meet-up, though, if people can do that?

Since ttaM is in this thread, I have a question to ask.
I want to get an inexpensive radio for the kitchen so that I can listen to to the news or classical music while I'm cleaning. My regular clock radio sounds terrible, scratches and gets a bad signal. I'm not looking for high quality acoustics, just something solid.
I would be willing to pay a bit more if it was wifi, and I could stream over the internet too. Well, really, that sort of thing should probably be for the living room.

Hey Witt, I'd love to meet Monday, but I have an experiment that I'm expecting to run late. If you and others end up meeting Monday, I'll try to join when I'm done.
So, Friday evening, we need a place and time. I'll suggest Fox and Hounds for full dive and Hank's for not-dive with patio space. 6 pm, maybe?
I don't know, I'm afraid. What we used to use for that was an Altec Lansing iPhone speaker/dock, which was surprisingly cheap, and sounded fine. The internet radio/streaming side was handled by the phone.
Now we have an open plan kitchen/living room, so we can just use the proper hifi, which has a Raspberry Pi with a Pi-Dac+ acting as the streamer/internet radio.*
* really recommended, and amazing for the money.
re: 13
I'd have a strong preference for somewhere without loud music. When we met up in SF, there was lots of people there I really wanted to talk to, but basically couldn't because the music was too loud for conversation.
Other than that, I don't mind dive or non-dive. No preference.
That SF place was really horrible, acoustically.
I'd love to meet Monday, but I have an experiment that I'm expecting to run late.
This sounds like the opening to a disaster movie.
And yeah, the place in SF was atrocious. I blame nosflow.
15: Fair enough. I don't think either has especially loud music on their patios (I'm assuming nice weather), but if someone else has a better idea, I'm not particularly attached to either place.
17: If it finishes early, I can bring my new re-animated "friend" to the meetup.
So glad I wasn't the only person ready to assault the sound system at that place! Here's wishing you better luck, knifecrimers and chocolatièrs!
Assaulting the sound system would have been as clear-cut a case of self defense as ever existed.
Hank's Oyster Bar on Friday around 6 sounds good to me.
I'll ask Heebie to bump this tomorrow.
Thanks. I was trying to remember to do that.
Thanks, bumper.
So, who's coming?
Where & when are we meeting?
(I like Hank's on Q at 6-ish.)
I'll likely arrive a little late, but I'll be there. Possibly +1 later in the evening.
Hank's doesn't take reservations, so a perfect headcount shouldn't be necessary.
I may have something come up that's hard to get out of. Have to play it by ear. This is unexpected, having enough going on that there's clashes for time.
Cassandane's parents are visiting this week, and I'm busy these days in general, so I'll check but I probably can't make it. That being said, if anyone is around Saturday night, a co-worker of mine is doing a jazz show at Mr. Henry's, near Eastern Market. (May 9, 8-11 p.m., 601 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) Just throwing that out there if people are still looking for stuff to do.
I just checked in with better half to see if I can make it.
I'll be coming to the meetup.
re: 33
I did. Although I'm in a safe Labour seat, so it wouldn't have mattered. No risk of a Tory or UKIP* victory.
* I'm in Ealing Southall, so _definitely_ no chance.
Oh so THIS is the meetup lw was referring to. I'll try to come!
It looks like I will not be able to make it. Oh well. Next time.
I should be there just after 6:30.
And ttaM damn well might need a seat.
A DRINK not a seat. Don't be confusingly boring, subconscious.
Butts. Butts. Butts.
DD cups, DD cups, DD cups.
America does run on Dunkin'.
I'm heading for 6:15 or so.
But I don't know how long it'll take me to get there. So. See folks. I have a pink shirt on.
I'm wearing a blue and white checked shirt.
I'm wearing a shirt of white linen and am cold as the clay.
I'm as cold as the clay that has been in an oven heated to the high eighties.
Or even hotter, if the internal clay temperature is to be considered.
Heading over shortly, probably be there 6:45ish.
TJ wants me to let people know he has arrived.
I think we can infer from the definite article that there's only one bar downstairs.
Leaving in 5, there about 6:45. Jeans, red checked shirt, beard. Not a lumberjack.
We're at the bar towards the back. I think TJ has the only pink shirt.
ttaM, where are you?
We have me, md 20/400, TJ, and potchkeh.
I'm authorized to tell you all that one of our readers at the White House has arranged for a VERY special guest at this meetup.
Not really. But if this was a halfway-decent show that's what would happen on the "trip to Washington" episode.
We are having drinks and eating seafood. Turns out reservations are available for parties our size. This is NOT what the website told us. So we have a table for an hour and then back to the bar. We are outside and it is nice.
This is NOT what the website told us.
And I was arguing with them about this, until I realized in was sounding like asshole Harvard Business School guy.
Time please. Here that means back to the bar.
Very nice to meet potchkeh and politicalfootball and ttaM. Nice also to see the rest of you folks again!
