(The Painted Burro is in Davis, by the way. Big, not crowded, kid friendlyish.)
I sort of miss the part where the people who might actually attend try to pick a place while other people suggest Fresh Salt.
Let me be the first to suggest making a joke about Fresh Salt.
Maybe- afternoon meetups are hard, I have dragged kids them a couple times.
I'm just saying, it's been a long time since some of us have ventured into Davis, who knows what the "-ish" means these days.
And I'm just saying it's nice to see you around the blog. It's been a while.
Oh, thanks! I still lurk occasionally, of course, but since I'm no longer a grad student it's hard to maintain the requisite familiarity with the archives.
I might be able to come to something 5-ish. It depends on how many of the wedding guests are still in town and expect to be seen.
Not as kid-friendly as a ball pit filled with nacho cheese, more kid friendly than Alinea.
5: Hope you can make it. My plan is to just camp out at a table for a few hours; I'm on vacation with no schedule.
12: See above, but I'm sure you'll be exhausted! Weddings and their guests definitely are more important than random internet strangers.
friendly-ish?
There isn't a place for the kids to run around or anything, but they have a kid menu, provide kid cups with lids and straws, and the servers dote on the kids rather than seeming annoyed by them.
Their house margaritas are also relatively strong, which I consider parent-friendly, since when you're dining out with a kid you often don't have time to down as many drinks as you otherwise might.
That's only about a block from my apartment but I'll be two time zones away.
Similarly, that's right down the street from me but I'll be on an airplane. Keep the liveblogging going and I might be able to swing by on my way home, though! (6ish)
Ydnew, Tweety, and I are going to drink ALL the margaritas.
Oh wait, no, 18. Let me change that to ydnew, Tweety, and I hope that mcmc will leave us at least a few of the margaritas.
My options are come from 4-5 with no kids or come later/longer with 2-3 kids (at least 2 and 5 year old, possibly 8.)
I am eight five year olds and then some.
Please nobody make a "where it counts" joke.
That's only about a block from my apartment but I'll be two time zones away.
You guys finally did it, didn't you; you tore a hole in the space-time continuum.
Oh noes I have a conflict! I have a thing from 5-7 to do with my show. All you people are probably going to be gone by then, but I will check to see if any diehards remain.
Well if Fleur comes then NONE of us are getting any of the margaritas.
I can put away a lot of margaritas.
The thing is cancelled. I will be there to help with the margaritas.
I assume you made the Monty Burns gesture while typing that.
I did. It makes it a little bit hard to type, but it's worth it.
Worth it or not, I can't help myself.
32: Hooray! Margaritas by the gallon!
22: My vote (if it matters) is stay longer with kids, but do whatever is convenient.
This is a thing we will do today! Bump it?
Oho! Take that, Pittsburgh nmeetup thread. This TODAY, people! In MINUTES! Also, Blume, Zardoz and I will be LATE! Because Zardoz is SLEEPING!
Bumped it has been. Now for the liveblogging.
On my way, also running a tiny bit late. My excuse is less cute, though.
But no kids. Which means I have to leave about 5:15.
Who else is there? Is it just SP with his tubes?
Liveblogging a taxi ride isn't very exciting. 10 minutes away, maybe?
We woke up Zardoz and are leaving soon; we're walking, so ETA maybe 30 minutes?
There are several young children here. Perhaps I should have mine delivered so I can stay longer.
Liveblogging a taxi ride isn't very exciting.
True, that's really NYT column material.
Liveblogging a taxi ride isn't very exciting
In the Boston area? Oh contraire.
50: I don't feel like that's even really a question.f
Kreskin and ydnew spotted my inner tubes in the window. Note to others: they are not inflated.
kibitzer liveblog: we are lurking
mcmc is here but sans the traditional meetup bag.
The hibiscus margaritas are attention-getters. Bright pink.
And Zardoz has arrived! Oh yeah and her parents.
We are here. Blume is finding commonalities between Knecht and billionaires Ydnew knows.
Update: they totally do have margaritas here.
Many margaritas: hibiscus, mango, cucumber, mescal . . .
+ knecht!
We have lost Kreskin and SP. Zardoz is waaaaaasted.
Pretty tipsy- she's spilled about 3 or 4 of her drinks on the floor.
Which did Zardoz like best? My guess is the mango and not the mescal.
I am in an undisclosed remote location, not yet able to enter my lodging. Less fun.
Had another commitment, alas. Great to see everyone!
We made it home, although not without Blume accumulating random chair parts. Quality meetup! Would margarita again! A++++!
Chair with no seat! Nice bones though. Hardwood, non-ostentatious carving on the back.
