it was good except that Oliver seems to think we need new laws passed, not prosecutions based on existing law.
Yeah, maybe some more prosecution would have been good. I think, though, at this point I'd rather just see the tort immunity eliminated. Lower standard of proof (so bullshit memos aren't the same kind of defense) and the victims or their families might get some benefit.
That word, "detainees" — its the worst.
VEE HAFF VAYS UFF MAKINK YOU TALK!
I watched this episode last night. Normally I find Oliver's show fantastic but exhausting because of all the new-to-me, impotent-rage-inducing stories he covers. It was refreshing to get angry about old familiar topics for a change. Look, it's Dick Cheney! I hate that guy!
1, 2: Oliver tends to focus on relatively minor attempts at redress. They do have the advantage of being more likely to be implemented, but it is somewhat frustrating.
it's not the law I would have written but it's quite decent. Think of it as Ayotte's bad 2011 proposal for a secret field manual annex for the CIA in reverse. And 78-21 in this nutty GOP Senate. I thought it'd pass in a squeaker.
