At this point why not just say Open Thread!
I have a thread idea but I'm not telling anybody.
Actually you didn't seem to worry about it. Nosflow called you on it a lot is all.
3 is not true! I bet you can't find more than one example of me being chastised for pacing between 2008 and 2013.
I'll bet you I'm not even the littlest bit willing to put in enough effort to check that.
I have a question that's not on topic anywhere. How did it come to pass that to install and update crucial programs for using the internet (Flash, Java) you have to deliberately decline to install what is basically malware (McAfee, toolbars, etc.)?
The whole internet is already malware- there are sites (I've seen it on TPM and LGM) where some video ad plays, and not only does it autoplay with sound it keeps jumping the page back to where the video is so you can't actually read the content. I can't imagine sites give advertisers permission to do this but it's not like they give a shit whose sites they ruin, they get the commissions on autoplay counts.
I hate autoplay with sound. It makes it hard to surf the internet while on a conference call.
Autoplay with sound is evil and whoever invented it needs to first against the wall. All who implement it can follow.
8 - So the way that this works, in general, is that a site signs up with an ad network, and when there are shitty ads like that, it tends to be a violation of the ad network's rules for advertisers. Even big reputable networks like Google's DoubleClick have problems with people pushing boundaries like this, and sites like LGM are using sketchier networks yet. There are things that can be done to report bad ads, but not -- as a rule -- by the people who actually suffer them when reading Sally Rando's Awesome Blog.
There are niche ad networks -- Project Wonderful, The Deck -- that don't have this problem, but they're not for general-purpose readers.
How did it come to pass
The magic of the invisible hand of capitalism.
Ok, relevant to the topic. What software do you use to keep track if things here. I used to use an old RSS client, but that isn't so not in multiple platforms. Does something like Feedly do a good job with the comments feed? ISO recommendations.
10 should not need to be said.
But it is, because autoplay with sound.

I used to use a client that ran off Google Reader, but it didn't work very well and I unsubscribed from the feeds. I'm on Feedly now, but I don't use the app (no caching, WTF). So I don't know how well it works.
3 is unambiguously libel, at least under English law, as I understand it.
14. To keep track of comments that have something memorable (book or game recommendation for me usually, sometimes an interesting URL)?
Usually I still use delicious, though sometimes I'll use twitter to make notes to self on interesting papers beyond saving the PMID.
Effective browsing, the serious problem is with papers-- I have a few ways to generate a list of 10-20 papers I would enjoy reading and probably should read to stay current.
Between home repairs, working, and some TV, though, I can generate reading lists that would be worthwhile much more quickly than I can actually read, so what's the point of memory aids.
17 -- when we all start suing each other, there will be some interesting jurisdictional and choice-of-law issues.
19: Has LB sued you for serial pseud changing yet?
Writing style is weird. I bitch about pseud changing because it confuses me. El Tigre has a special dispensation (from annoying me. It's not as if I'd mentioned it to him or anyone before) because it is somehow always immediately obvious exactly who he is. Other people should not count on being able to pull this off.
And now I have locked myself out of the armpit thread. Maybe I will check it on my phone, which lets me read raunchy stuff, including if I'm the one who brought it up in the first place.
If we want to say something and have you not see it (right away), all it takes is one or two* mentions of the "an*l bleach*ing"?
* I replied using the same phrase.

I must be awkward for a moment. This is more for my own pledge-keeping needs than anyone else, but I'm checking out of here entirely for a bit, probably a couple of months, to get a bunch of work done at home and elsewhere (streets, sheets, etc.). Blanket well-wishes to all and especially to the subset of you (Thorn, Barry, JRobot, AWB, divorces all) starting new projects and undergoing big life changes. You will be in my thoughts. Have a good summer.

Thanks, lurkey. I hope you have a good summer too. Feel free to email if you ever want to, and should be better at responding these days than on last go-round.
I always assume that any life change that involves spending less time on Unfogged is an improvement, but I'll miss having you around, and will be happy to see you back if that happens.
Best of luck lk. You'll be missed and in my thoughts as well. I hope you get good stuff done.
1.) Good luck, LK! Be productive for a while but don't stay away forever.
2.) 9: Does this autoplay thing come on even if the computer is set to mute? Or is it not set to mute, because you need the sound to participate in the conference call
Goodbye! Come back soon! Have more will power than I do!
See you when it's the right time!
