That was not about who I thought it was going to be about.
1: Just another human that needs to be loved.
Hey guys, I just got an invitation to this event!
"This Friday, all your libertarian dreams might just come true! Join Reason.com Editor-in-Chief N/ick Gi/llespie for happy hour and lots of conversation at Reason's Los Angeles headquarters. In fact, we're so excited to see Nick here in the City of Angels that we'll make it TWO full hours of happy--plenty of time to discuss populism and weird hair in presidential politics, the war on freedom of speech on college campuses, the infamous subpoena fiasco of 2015, and wherever else the conversation takes us."
Maybe dreams really can come true.
the infamous subpoena fiasco of 2015
Did I miss a subpoena fiasco? What are they talking about?
8: Googling, I came up with this -- but that was in 2014.

I'm about to hit send on an email to someone I really like and have been getting to know over the past couple of weeks and I just know that once I do I'm going to agonize over whether I should have sent it or whether I should have said this or that or whatever until the very moment I see she's replied which I'm sure will not be for a few days at least. It's just me being stupid so I thought I'd just flag my stupidity beforehand. Also probably nothing will come of it anyway so double stupidity on me.

As long as you have a sig file with a quote from Captain Picard, I don't see what can go wrong.
Just get really drunk first. Even if you do remember sending it you'll be able to tell yourself you had an excuse. Maybe also you'll be able to tell the other person, but really telling yourself the excuse is the key.
To the OP: Thanks. I'd not heard of this or seen the photo before.
I have no booze in the house. You have to get a license to get alcohol here and I haven't done that yet. I need to get my driver's license first. (That isn't as reckless as it sounds.)
I am not putting this forward as a complete solution by any means, but in matters of the heart sometimes it is helpful to tell yourself a story about being more sophisticated, carefree, confident and/or emotionally mature than you feel yourself to be. Then live that story, even if only in short fleeting stints. It's a sort of exercise, like romantic gym.
19. It is honestly a little surprising to read such a straightforward endorsement of Halfordismo. I will experiment and report back.
Romantic burpees.
Seriously though I think 19 is solid advice. Will take it.
I dunno peep, Morrissey and "sophisticated, carefree, confident and/or emotionally mature" are kind of at odds, don't you think?
--
But seriously, I take your point as well.
2 is more of a Kirk thing than a Picard thing.
To go back to the OP, because we're not to comment 40 yet, if you must date and impregnate a teenager, don't use a plantation theme for the family photo.
But if you do must do all of that, I guess confidence is the way to go.
It seems to be working for Morrissey, anyway.
If you can leave the symbolic-whatever aside, it's a really cute picture, if it's blurry enough that you can't tell he's forty years older than her.
19 & 21: Yeah. Unless small children are gonna be hurt, every once in a while it's good to blow one's entire previous life to hell and gone and see what happens next. You're gonna die sooner or later no matter what, it's better to do so during an adventure.
I have video of Joe dancing the chicken dance with my son at my brother's wedding. Joe was there with my brother's wife's friend. They dated off and on.
Smart and hardworking. But, wow, he puts himself in horrible situations.
I think we've all been in horrible situations if doing the chicken dance counts.
Anyway, things happen at weddings and teens catch pregnant easy, I hear. But pictures while dressed as antebellum planters don't just take themselves.
It's the shamelessness that really gets me. This guy does not give a fuck.
That he can do it sober is what gets me. Anybody can be drunk and shameless.
Sorry to step on your post, J, Robot.
every once in a while it's good to blow one's entire previous life to hell and gone and see what happens next
29 the first part is pretty much what already happened to me what with the life-changing events of the previous decade. Since I've gotten my life back together I've just decided to go for broke, so yeah.
Shameless and crazy it is. I'll admit that I went into reading that fully expecting him to be a Republican.
I thought this was going to be about that guy from the Warhol movies. This guy is just depressing.
39 Maybe too hastily written so early in the morning but how so? (Or shouldn't I ask?)
40: Context here == The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Joe Morrissey,
Well if he's going to set off a nuke, that is worrying.
Good point. Barry? Go easy on the nukes.
39, 41 That's me today, slow on the uptake.
43 I'll take it under advisement.
I'm not saying don't nuke anything, just, you know, do it with an appropriate level of care.

There are lots of 'Downfall' rants, but this one might hit a nerve with guitar players.

Don't listen to them, Barry. Nuke it up! Nuke like a champ! If they can't take the heat, let them get the hell out of the Nevada Testing Range, I always say.
What happened to the visionaries who wanted to build tunnels and canals and kindergarten playgrounds with nuclear weapons? We live in a shitty age of too much risk management.
Delurking momentarily to say how much I enjoyed 47, ttaM.
47 was a wee bit painful for an idiot like me. (Barry! We may swap out the DiMarzios for different pickups unless you raise a strenuous objection. It's a reversible procedure.)
52 It was about the only thing I've ever seen that made me sympathize with Hitler, so there's that.
(Go for it, lk! What kind? Would you send a couple of pics when you're done?)
47 prompted me to finally go listen to the original clip after having listened to umpteen repurposings.
Barry, the pickups are Lollar Imperials, which I very much hope can be made to sound all different kinds of sweet with the coil tap wiring that's already in there. I'm not really in Hitler's camp but this seems like a promising mod. We can send pics!
I've started practicing on weekends with an old friend on drums, but we really need to find a bass player of taste who's up for practices in the East Bay, and I'm afraid of asking Craigslist. I don't suppose anyone knows anyone? The sound is slightly "Spoon" and slightly "Blur in the late-nineties noisy phase," just to mark out a quadrant.
