That passage from Nietzsche is very good, thank you. The Gay Science is the only book of his that I've read (for a class, which spent several weeks on it), and I didn't recognize the quotation, but it reminds me of what I enjoyed about Nietzsche
Incidentally, you might enjoy John Holbo's post about Nietzsche, "The Genealogy of Trolling.
1: Shouldn't someone come up with a new title for that book?
1,2: The most worried I have ever seen my southern, conservative dad is when he came into my room while I was home from college and asked, "What's that book you got about gay science??"
Is this (NSFW, even though I found it while at work) really a picture of Lou Salomé giving handjobs to Friedrich Nietzsche and Paul Rée? what is going on here
Had not seen that CT thread; led me to see if Kenneth Goldsmith had sung any Nietzsche, but apparently not.
Concluding that a godlike creator of our particular little thingymajob is an asshole is overdetermined.
But maybe someone here has had their "tremendous moment" and would be willing to let the rest of us in on the trick.
5: It certainly appears to be. Nietzsche's moustache looks all the sillier when he's naked.
None of the three of those people look like who they're purported to be.
1: Shouldn't someone come up with a new title for that book?
Somebody in the CT thread refers to it as, "The Frolicking Science" which is amusing though I have no idea if it's a reasonable translation.
Regarding the OP, I've decided that no matter how many likes you get on the internet, it's wrong to put a cat in the microwave and really wrong to turn on the microwave with the cat still inside.
15: Because I am so totally heterosexual it's one book by Nietzsche, that I haven't read at all. What "science" is he referring to anyway?
15: I've seen "The Joyful Wisdom," which is just annoying. He refers to la gaya scienza time and again in the book!
I think the Nietzschster craved love and approval as nakedly and shallowly as the stupidest Millennial,* but genius magnified those cravings to heroic scope and scale. Counterexamples: Every conservative, MRA, RedPill, etc., etc., etc. blogger with a Nietzsche quote at the top of the page.
* "NEW FROM RANDOM HOUSE: The Stupidest Millennial returns in ... South Bronx Condominium! Author tour, advance reader copies to Instagram feeds with 20,000+ follows."
3: SMBC is all over this idea. (There are a bunch more; that's just the first one I could find.)
"This idea" being God being a huge dick, that is.
Diversion: mild amusement, and pity, and exasperation: "adult coloring books", meaning not sexy pictures, but that many adults need the rest caused by coloring inside the lines. Also there's a magazine for teaching adults to doodle.
Dover has been publishing similar books for decades, I think, but they didn't used to need to market-srgment them to grownups.
