"An urban area that has a name, defined boundaries, and local government, and that is generally larger than a village and smaller than a city."
It's a heck of a town. I had very good fried oysters there once. Also, rowboats in a little pond.
I might make it the 13th, but can't commit to anything. Big to-do on the 15th being prepared for.
One new place with a rather prodigious amount of seating and not far from BART is Drake's Dealership.
I could probably make it, latish*, either day. Thursdays are usually better for me.
*Assuming east bay or SF location, so it'll take me some time to get there.
I could do either day. I prefer the city to the East Bay but it's not a deal breaker.
The East Bay is closer to Fresh Salt.
I could probably make either day. Drake's Dealership indeed has a lot of seating and wasn't horribly loud the one time I was there.
I have a slight preference for the 13th.
OK, let's make it the 13th at Drake's Dealership, then? Minivet, I may not recognize you if you do come, but would love to see the miniature-Minivet. Sorry it's slightly less convenient for fake accent and Yawnoc. Thanks, all!
Oh, right, timing. 6:30ish, will half-assedly liveblog until we leave? Or is earlier or later better?
Oh, hey, it was that long ago we met. That's an incentive to make it.
There's now an outside chance I'll have relatives visiting midweek, in which case I won't make it, but otherwise I think I could be there around 7:30-8.
12: Later is better for me, because I'm coming from the South Bay. I'll be hard pressed to get there before 7 or 7:30. But others can get started earlier, if you want.
Oh hey, it was a good day for me to check my news feed for a change.
I can probably make it.
16: Definitely we'll be there until you (& fa?) can make it.
17: Good timing!
I'm going to attempt to leave work just after 5 but at that hour it may take me until 7:30 to get there.
I will be bringing fruitcake.
Don't they have rules about food from outside?
And how do they feel about fruitcake?
For one brief moment, I did the conversion wrong and thought this meet up was starting in a few hours.
Instead, y'all can liveblog the meet up and the SOTU simultaneously!
I tend to get back to the mainland around 6 but will probably go home first.
For the record, 22 confused me about which day the State of the Union was on.
I will be later than I planned, since I need to take care of some family business first. I'll be along as soon as I can.
I will be there sometime after this year's SOTU address.
I am at a picnic table on the right as you enter.
For the past week I've been thinking "ydnew puteem" sounds like a traditional greeting in a language I can't understand. And ydnew puteem to you.
Yidnew poutine is cheese and gravy over latkes.
I'm on BART, just crossed the Oakland border.
I keep thinking Ydnew Puteem is something like ETAOIN SHRDLU.
Getting off work now, but only a shuttle-ride away.
Is this some of the fruitcake made by Buck?
On my way. Probably around 8:30 or so.
Why do I always end up talking about air travel?
Less air travel, more fruitcake. It is the true Smearcase way.
There was a discussion of Judaism and fruitcake. There was skepticism.
You should talk about train travel. And talk it up too.
Skepticism that one might never have had fruitcake on account of being judaistic.
I just obtained a delicious French 75 but at a bar in SF. Glad you all had a lovely time! Yay fruitcake!
We ended up with way too much cash at the end of the night, which is unprecedented in my experience.
Now that's a winning meetup. You should spend the excess on Powerball tickets.
The impossibility of finding shit showers in TFA...
The necessity of dedicated bathrooms...
The liberation of wearing scrubs at work....
The rare, delirious moment when people are talking about their cats and a beleaguered child-owner has to say "HERE IS A PICTURE OF MY HUMAN CHILD IF ANYONE CARES."
I went home though. I'm boring.
There was discussion of cat nap schedules, swear to God.
63: Feeding schedules, asshole. Kitties gotta eat.
At least I was live blogging, ladies and gentleman.
60: wasn't quick enough to get to the fruitcake, you mean.
f.a. refused to try the fruit cake, said it, "seemed kind of Jewy."

I would use the word "chewy" in a joke but that's not funny.
Yawnoc is taking a luxury town car to the "city" while I'm among the people, riding BART to Union City.
Ah yes, I forgot how terrible your transportation infrastructure is down there.
Hey now, we still plow the roads sometimes.
Josh said it was OK to take a Lyft home because they are responsible for LA's world famous public transportation infrastructure.
Cue R. Tigre defense of LA transit in 3...2...1
Was it mentioned that we ate poutine? We ate poutine. I was told that it was fairly fancy for poutine.
The poutine cost more than my cab ride home.
Does it seriously take two hours to get from Oakland to SF on a Wednesday night?
If the answer is yes I reiterate 75. If it's no I reiterate 72.
One may have interpreted 55 to mean everybody went home but in fact the evening had a lengthy denouement. G'night y'all.
Although apparently one of the winning Powerball tickets was sold in California, so if you didn't follow the advice in 56 you could be out hundreds of millions.
I deliberately didn't try to time how long it took me to get to SJ. Over an hour, including the wait for BART.
It required some real research to track this down. Original thread here. This was referenced at the meetup.
I will now take the advice in 72.
[for the record, I had to use wget and grep to find that, search terms in search engines were failing me*]
*somewhere, there's a cluster of search logs from ip addresses that could be associated with me with terms like "site:unfogged.com mash poop shower"
Huh, I could have sworn that was a Dan Savage column.
Does it seriously take two hours to get from Oakland to SF on a Wednesday night?
No. Though if you're trying to get to the outer sunset or something, maybe.
Oh, I see that you phrase that so as to include Incognito mode. Onion routing, man.
P.S. I must say against my own (present) interests that Drake's Dealership was a pretty ideal meetup location: lots of room, not too loud, close to BART. I nominate it to be Fresh Salt West.

97.2: I was going to say much the same. Only tradeoff is somewhat scarce staff.
I'm a little lukewarm on the place, mostly because it's beer & wine only. I also got an unexciting muffuletta, but the pizza is really good. Anyway it's like five blocks from home so I'm happy to have it be Fresh Salt West.
I'm still waiting for my pretzel.
