I'm not sure how I feel about Waits' "John the Revelator".
A Christmas or two ago I bought a Peggy Lee Xmas album because hey that should be *awesome* but actually it was awful. Crystalline example of phoning it in.
Just read the New Yorker article about it, was unsure what to think. I'll take your recommendation.
2: probably a giveaway that not a single track from it became even a minor classic. At least, I can't think of her performance of an Xmas song that I hear a lot. Anyway, a shame.
