This Jimmy Fallon clip might be my favorite Prince story so far.

he had cancer or something
Tabloid press is saying he had been HIV-positive since the mid-90s and had been increasingly frail, but tabloid press, so grains of salt. His personal chef for the past three years said he had been "battling waves of sore throats and frequent upset stomachs in his final months [...and...] been asking for items like smoothies and freshly squeezed juices that were easier to digest".
MTV Unplugged -- amazing stage presence. In complete control of the room.
Lots of great tributes still happening here: block party at the community center that used to be Prince's HS; presence in the May Day Parade; commemorative covers of the daily paper; lots of renaming proposals (best one is the airport terminal -- get that lousy old Fascist's name offa there!)

Ho-lee shit. That really is one of the greatest performances I've ever seen.
I kind of love the idea of renaming the Green Line the Purple Line. But getting rid of Lindbergh's name would be a real bonus to renaming the terminal.

So, for philosophers turned coders is there an equivalent? Kieran Healy on why philosophers are assholes:

Oops, could someone strip my personal email out of that comment? Thanks
It was in the news several years ago that he had bad degenerative hip damage; I've been assuming all along that the death was related to that (i.e. that he OD'd on painkillers or simply became hooked on painkillers and that led to other bad things).
12 was what I was assuming as well, and I think it was basically the story that TMZ, who broke the story of his death in the first place, were going with. The number of tabloid rumors is multiplying right now though so who knows.
It's not even remotely Prince related, but this is certainly something that should be watched. It's disturbing to feel positively inclined towards Trump, but he's keeping Cruz away from the nomination and holy hell is Cruz ever creepy.
Sheila E said he had really bad hips and knees, and was in a lot of pain. So yeah, I've just been assuming an accidental OD on prescription opiates.
That MTV unplugged clip is so great. Never seen that before.
