Re: Scheiße show

Wait, they actually have to re-vote, not just recount?

On another European election, I am fascinated by this Gove person who is suddenly in the news. He seems to be the precise British equivalent of Ted Cruz. Half the coverage is about how ruthless and disloyal he is, and the other coverage is about how weird and creepy he looks. But nobody in Britain votes on the basis of being a Christian theocrat, so in the absence of that there's even less reason to think anyone could support this guy.

I am equally confused by the attempted anti-Corbyn revolt by the same people who were anti-Corbyn last year. It seems to be very personal. Why doesn't this McDonnell guy run for leader instead, he seems to be respected by his peers and actually looks like a politician and is always showing up in the media saying "Actually what Jeremy meant was this, before you took it out of context."

Also I am confused by the apparently inadequate base of the support for Corbyn/McDonnell. It seems to be both the young cosmopolitan people, AND the labor unions. Uhh, who else does Labour represent? Whoever they are, why don't they join the Lib Dem party instead?

but it seems as if that might be something unsavory.

What could possibly lead you to think that about something German?

Isn't "Shitstorm" officially a german word now? The Germans love Shitstorm.

3: there is one group of people for whom Corbyn's economic theories are not boring academic lunacy. They are the ones who will lose their jobs at the next election if he is still leader then and it includes almost all the parliamentary party. That is why they are trying to put his feet in concrete and hurl him into the Thames. They'll probably lose their jobs anyway but they're doing what they can.

It's shocking how the court ordered a new election, instead of just awarding the presidency to the worthier candidate. I guess some countries are backward that way.

They're supporters of Tony Blair, who spent 15 years trying to turn the Labour Party into the American Democratic Party, or of Gordon Brown, who did the same thing, except he and his supporters aren't on speaking terms with Blair and his supporters. I hope that clarifies everything for you.

2. Gove is not a theocrat of any kind, so far as he's let on so far. It's perfectly possible to be ruthless, disloyal, weird and creepy looking without being ostentatiously religious, and he checks all the boxes. AIMHSHB, while he was Secretary of State for Educuation, Mrs y ran into a friend who worked in his department and asked how it was going. "Think North Korea, without the weapons," was the reply.

OTOH he's probably less racist than Theresa May, which is a low bar to clear.

So, shitshow it assuredly is, but doesn't it seem like the non-Nazi has a better chance this time? Presumably a lot of people out there who could be activated to vote based on the knowledge of how close it was.
