I had forgotten about that guy. Had to google him.
That you aren't supposed to send sexually explicit messages to Congressional pages.
Or else Dennis Hastert will insist you resign from Congress. Because he has standards, that apply to people other than himself.
3: Oh! But it's still ok to send to members of Congress, right?
Who are you people? The Foley transcripts are the greatest goddamn story of the millennium.
My first thought was "That doesn't look anything like Dave Foley."
8: Too easy to confuse him with Mark Sanford, the guy whose used a hiking trip as cover for visiting his mistress.
That's not fair. Sanford wasn't doing anything close to as bad as hitting on underage pages.
Doesn't anyone remember The Poor Man breaking the story that the Foley transcripts were perfectly innocent?
13 Oh god yes that was hilarious.
I think the archives of that are gone, but here are some quotes from the real transcript in TNR.
I was just looking for that, with the poor little deer and his antlers, not horns.
12: Right, my confusion is due to them having the same first name and being Republicans involved in sex scandals from seven to nine years ago.
People often get confused about that (the antlers).
So, has anybody else clicked on The Poor Man in the sidebar lately?
I saw the new stuff there in my feed reader - at first pleasantly surprised that there was something there, but then I decided to hate humanity.
It's like what Joni Mitchell and Cinderella said: "Don't know what you got, 'til it's gone."
I assumed this was somehow about Pro Wrestler Mick Foley, and was wondering what the Steamroom reference was about, like some kind of special move.
BTW, I could swear that either the Wayback Machine has the exonerating Foley transcripts or it's extensively quoted somewhere. I was losing my shit over it within the last year or two.
I can't believe so many people had forgotten Foley. We had some great comments about him in a thread that sadly seems to have disappeared down the hoohole.
What's a guy like you doing in a place like this, Moby?
What's a guy like you doing in a place like this, Moby?
That definitely explains how you got here. Not so much why you stayed.
It was the Mark Foley scandal that made me realize the true cynicism needed to succeed in politics. The Democrats all knew about his behavior for months or years, right? And waited until the right moment to make it into a scandal?
There was an interesting piece somewhere fairly recently by the page who leaked the story to the media that went into a lot of detail about exactly how that happened.
That even at the time people thought Hastert should have lost his job over it is pretty rich.
The Politico article doesn't talk about knowledge, action, or inaction on the Democratic side, that I can see at least.
Sort of on topic: I just noticed that on one of the hiking blogs I read, somebody left a comment under the name Mark Sanford. The thread about about hiking the Appalachian Trail. It appears to have been a one-off, not somebody's usual pseud.
