Interesting, but kind of overblown. Some press attache confabulates a story, media reprint it without fact-checking, press office covers its ass with security stonewalling. Dire, but I don't see that the direness of this particular story resides in the micropolitics of migration, where the author apparently wants to put it.
It's been a while since the word Ghana was posted, but still he hasn't shown up. I guess the internet has changed.
Let's make it easier: Stalinism AND Ghana AND academia
I think you need to also mention "university".
2: He comments on another blog I read. He no longer lives in Ghana, having moved to one of ex-Soviet 'stans (I forget which). So maybe that explains it.
1: yes, there is a lot of work going on there to make the story "US visa policy is awful" and not "there are a lot of bad, lazy journalists working for major UK and international titles".
Inexplicably, the Guardian does not mention that, as well as the awful Sun, Fox News and Xinhua, one of the papers that ran the fake story about the fake embassy without doing any checking was... the Guardian.

Wasn't he in Iraq? In Kurdistan I think. Does he still comment at LGM?
I honestly can't place who we're talking about.
You could probably just bluff along.
I'm happy to report that I forgot the name of the person in question though I still recognize the references.
9: No. He still posts on his blog, though.
His blog suggests that he is in Kurdistan.
So I guess there's a job open in Ghana.
I hear visas can be a real hassle there.
Come get a work visa at my embassy I just made.
Of course, I only help knowledge workers if I think they are worthy. I bless the brains bound for Africa.
Brains are unusually nutritious for their weight.
7: In fairness, I expect many of the journalists are underfunded and time-constrained in addition to being bad and lazy.
Forgive me, I needed something nutritious.
Also, the article suggests that Diplomatic Security Service officers might have really fascinating careers.
8: Shocked, shocked, to find that sort of thing going on at a reputable newspaper </Captain Renault>
