When are you/we aiming for? According to the archives in the sidebar, the blog started in a February, so we're already too late for the exact date.
I'll probably show up if it's a weekend day or early weeknight in the DC area, and maybe more than that. My family has some travel planned this year, both including me and not including me and it's not all firmed up yet, so I might be the life of the party, have Cassandane and Atossa in tow, or not show up at all, depending on how things line up.
Hope it goes well and I'm able to bring them, though. Atossa's big enough to play with people, so it might actually be fun for her. Cassandane is looking hard for a new job. Hopefully she'll get something any day now and will be able to gush about it, but if not, Unfogged would essentially be a networking or at least coaching opportunity for her.
I would probably show up to something that was arranged, but I am the world's least competent/successful event planner, so not the source of energy here. But the last one was excellent.
Which baby did you bring? Ace? I think Ace.
Can I just say that was a highly misleading post title.
It FELT like a confession to me! It felt like I was in a logjam, and the only thing to do is admit that I'm in a logjam.
It was indeed Ace! who just turned 5 a few weeks ago, as you'd expect.
I thought Texans in a logjam called Henry Shreve.
My summer schedule is still very vague to me.
Not for the usual reason (because I'm indecisive and lazy) but because of things I cannot control.
Or maybe I could control them if I were decisive, but I really think that would be too much effort.
If DC area again, I'm in-- elsewhere reasonably convenient, also in, schedule permitting. Middling energy, say a medley of side-dishes or some reserving/scoping out of possibilities, but not enough to genuinely organize (that is, head counts and proactive assessment of group sentiment) or make fabulous...
Naturally; it's a much better portmanteau.
You're just saying that because 16 is the age of consent for parties in D.C.
I feel like I should have asked for this post a month or two ago. I'll be in the US from June 8 and leaving on July 12th. If it's possible to do something that soon anytime in July up to the 11th would be ideal for me.
Summer plans still a bit vague, but if in DC I would try to attend. As an introvert, though.
I'll try to attend if it's in the Northeast or lower Midwest. Further away is possible but less likely.
What do you have against Wisconsin?
Last time it was going to be in Pittsburgh and I was going to go, and was excited about it, and then it wasn't in Pittsburgh so I didn't. That's my fascinating story. The end!!!! *sparkle hands*
21: Paul Ryan, mostly. And I hear the Wisconsin Dales aren't as impressive as advertised.
I guess I could extend to the upper Midwest if you wanted to have Unfoggedquiñera somewhere interestingly weird, like Mackinac or Beaver Island.
22: It was fun when you came to the Pittsburgh meetup!
Maybe this year it won't be in Cleveland.
We should find the geographical center of North American unfogged commenters and then studiously avoid having it there because it's bound to be someplace like Bronson, Mo.
If we're picking useless measures of centrality across North America, we could have it at Glacier National Park, where all the major watersheds come together. Not that we have any commenters who live in the drainage basin of the Arctic.
I'm pretty sure we have some in Great Basin drainage.
Oh, true. I wouldn't want to exclude gswift, whose waters all go to the sky and not the sea. Maybe others I'm forgetting.
I think something like the geographical center argument helped pick the last location (which was splendid, I thought).
Doubt I could attend anywhere but the northeast.
East of the Hudson
Fortunately, as the New Yorker informed us, that's very nearly the entire country.
Weird, Fresh Salt is exactly at the Unfogged-weighted centroid of North America.
I liked Pittsburgh for it. JROTH can give eating reccs.
I don't remember where Pittsburgh fell on the New Yorker cover.
We're beyond New Jersey. If Lennon could live in the Dakota, Pittsburgh is in the metaphorical Yukon.
Too bad it's not the literal Yukon. I'll be ready for some cooler weather.
Fuck. I meant Whitehorse. Bit cooler in Yellowknife, though.
27 I have definitely commented from the part of Montana that drains into Hudson Bay.
Our local river is going to hit its highest level in 110 years tomorrow. Nothing like the Lake Missoula floods, obvsly.
You may be our only, even temporarily, Prince Rupert's Land commenter.
D.C. in late july (20th or later)/very early august (before the 6th)? I will bring the party energy.
I won't go this year. If we did something next year, I might go.
What I would prefer to DC would be something out of a city - like a beach house or a cabin in the woods. But i'm Out for this year.
or a cabin in the woods
Maybe no. Speaking statistically, it's virtually certain at least one of us is a serial killer.
46 Castock, or whatever the new name is, can claim that honor. Although quite possibly not alone.
Speaking statistically, it's virtually certain at least one of us is a serial killer.
Yeah, like we've got that kind of work ethic.
A potential serial killer if everybody is gathered at a remote cabin.
I guess that might be a spree killer.
It depends on how many hours before everybody flees the cabin.
51 to 50. I will attend and promise not to murder anybody.
It depends on how many hours before everybody flees the cabin.
I'd like to think that, in the event of someone running amuck at the meetup, my time-to-flight would be measured in rather smaller units than "hours".
Though that doesn't allow for the possibility of very absorbing conversations, or indeed a very large cabin.
I just assumed it would be the British guy.
51 Is Lord Castock still hanging around these parts? I miss his voice.
Gravelly as the braided streams of Rupert's Land.
I'm at a cabin in the woods even as I write this. However, this area is too sparsely populated for any sort of statistically significant killing spree. If I were so inclined, which I'm not (but then, I would say that, wouldn't I?).
I've never been to Pittsburgh, but would like to see it. So: DC or Pittsburgh or, of course, Hudson Bay for its drainage basin, would all suit me.
I was curious if I could get to Pittsburgh by train. Google Maps says, "Sure! Take a train to DC; then, take a Greyhound bus for seven hours to Pittsburgh."
There is a train, but it's not that fast.
69: Yeah, looking on Amtrak's site, I can book from CVS to PGH, and it takes 14-15 hours (because of transfer/layover in DC). By car, it's around five hours.
In any event, I would like to attend this Unfogged Quince Party, but I put my likelihood of attending at a sad and historic low of 53%. If I were to attend, I'd say slight preference for Pittsburgh, as it would give me an excuse to visit Fallingwater.
44 I have definitely commented from the part of Montana that drains into Hudson Bay.
If we got like 3 more people to move to Missoula we'd have a quorum. The meetup would have to be here; it's in the bylaws
If like a half dozen of us got Falling Water tickets at the same time, they could run in and lock the doors and then everybody else could be waiting by the creek and sneak in up the creek stairs.
I want ice cream, but I only remembered to get wine.
I have ice cream and wine. I had to go shopping three times today because I forgot the kitty litter twice but I have ice cream and wine.
Had wine, that is. Still have ice cream and kitty litter.
I hope for your sake that kitty kills lots of vermin for your troubles.
To date I have found one mouse that likely died of heart problems.
Can't you train cats to piss in the bathtub.
Charles Mingus even trained his cat to poop in the toilet.
I saw two enormous St. Bernards sprawling all over a clothes shop the other day. They look like they miss the snow.
Buddhist people have been marching past my apartment with drums and fireworks for about 20 fucking minutes now.
I gleefully killed a mosquito on Saturday. But the locals do that too, so I don't think it's that.
They've stopped, but no someone is having a drunken yelling match instead.
If you have a problem, yo I'll solve it.
Check out the wheel while my abbot revolves it.

If it weren't for cultural appropriation we wouldn't have 96, and would be the poorer for it.
