...men would be put on pedestals and treated like a luxury scarce good instead of being consigned to a life with a growing risk of slavery-rape
I recall reading something along those lines as having happened in Post WW2 Russia. At least, they said it explained why Russian men were able to get away with drinking often enough to lower their life expectancy.
1 Time for a second Sino-Indian war?
Male scarcity in post WW2 Russia and modern black America seems to result in higher degree of polygamy, as you'd expect.
This study https://unews.utah.edu/more-than-a-few-good-men/ among others suggests that excess males don't mean higher levels of violence but do mean more monogamy.
Mostly I just relish the bitter justice of the thing.
Will the lineages that go extinct be disproportionately assholish? Probably not, but I hope so!
7 This is fairly close to a drauqsed pet theory, but I forget what he calls it.
I remember reading that Chinese men are buying wives from North Korea, b/c of the imbalance. Also that in some parts of India, women are forced to become wives to more than one man, b/c of the shortage.
It's all horrifying. The only bit of silver I can see in all the clouds, is the change in prevailing attitudes amongst parents in China. I read that parents are starting to see daughters as "a warm comfortable blanket for our old age", where sons basically don't do that -- they move away to the cities and that's that. Atomized capitalism to the rescue, so to speak.
10.1 I heard a story on BBC World Service the other day about Vietnamese women (and girls) being trafficked to China and forced into marriage.
Hopefully Jordan Peterson can go to Asia and tell them to keep their rooms clean and not masturbate.
There is also a trade in Pakistani Christian women (who tend to be low caste) to China as wives for farmers, who they are told -- quite falsely -- are also Christian. Very good AP story by Kathy Gannon about it

I just want to record that on a menu in Narnia I saw advertised "our signature margarine". I don't remember that from Mr Tumnus's feast in the books.

". I read that parents are starting to see daughters as "a warm comfortable blanket for our old age", where sons basically don't do that -- they move away to the cities and that's that."
Your son's your son till he takes a wife but your daughter's your daughter all of your life, as the saying goes.
It's an interesting reversal of tradition because previously in China the son stayed in the household and brought his wife in to the family to be terrorised by her mother in law, but the daughter would leave and join someone else's household...
Luckily, cob is a good insulator.
Also, it would be irresponsible not to speculate that PRC policies of forced Han-non-Han intermarriage in Xinjiang have something to do with non-Han having been exempt from the one-child policy; and to wonder what that might portend for the non-Han of the southwest, who thus far AFAIK haven't been subjected to the same kind genocide.
17: That's a common misconception, but cob is actually not an effective insulator. It is thermal mass, which can help if there is a sunny daytime before a cold night, but in a northern climate like here, you need to insulate a cob house with something not-cob.
Oh well. Cold old age for you.
Your son's your son till he takes a wife but your daughter's your daughter all of your life, as the saying goes.
My dad used to repeat this saying whenever someone would ask him (as some people would ask him, because some people are awful) whether he was "disappointed" that he had four daughters, but no sons. His other response: "I'm not a farmer. What would I want with sons?"
I found the article profoundly depressing, but was impressed by the courage and clear-sightedness of the 14-year-old schoolgirl protesters. I suppose they might give one hope?
People should have kids because you can put them in one of these.
Dude it's like you didn't even see everyone in the streets protesting ICE putting kids in those things.
13 link is good. Similar but worse from Myanmar I linked a while back.
Heebietake.1: women in China kind of are being pedestaled (and commodified).
"Bare Branches" would also be a good euphemism for sex without a condom. So, this is confusing.
Let us not even speak of the Ten Heavenly Stems and Twelve Earthly Branches.
I'm assuming 26 is obscene in some way that silenced everybody, but I can't understand because I'm new to the internet.
Back when I was there, living in the Chinese equivalent of Huntington, WV, I had trouble finding a date that was remotely age appropriate. I was 33-34, and going out with 20 year olds, no problem, theoretically, but...Worst date of my life, got set up with a girl who turned out to be 20, have the same English name as my Mom, and her life's ambition was to work at Disney World.
If you're a young Chinese woman and you're not married by like 27, you are screwed, or at least that's how it used to be in the boonies. If demographics force that to change, it will do a lot of good for an enormous amount of people.
Or they could just kidnap minorities from neighboring dictatorships, whichever's easier.
Whoops, new computer
That's not how computers are made.
Will the lineages that go extinct be disproportionately assholish?
As I look around the world as it stands, it is not strikingly obvious that wealthy famous assholes tend to have fewer children than wealthy famous non-assholes.

Didn't we discuss this as a possibility?
Don't Want Your School to Be Named for a Confederate General? Find Someone Else Named Lee
https://www.wsj.com/articles/dont-want-your-school-to-be-named-for-a-confederate-general-find-someone-else-named-lee-11561368603?mod=hp_lead_pos5
Philanthopist Adelaide Lee and photographer Russell Lee have been used, but so far not, tragically, Bruce or Christopher.
I'm sure prevailing winds would serve in many locations.
Nobody doesn't like Sara Lee, except the keto people.
I vote for Lee Kuan Yew, who took a rebellious southern province and turned it into a modern economic powerhouse.
Li Ka-shing, who did the same but with classic southern sleaze and a great pun.
Stagger Lee High School would be pretty great.
29.last. If you read the whole article, you'd see that they are effectively doing that in some cases. It's sort of "trafficking-lite."
34 Wait, there's also Spike. The three greatest Lees ever.
|| NMM2 Dave Bartholemew. 100 is a decent innings. |>
42 Add her to the list, Arthur and Gypsy Rose too. The six greatest Lees.
32: Yes! (Your following comment is more on point, but I am proud of mine except for fucking up and calling Stephen F. Austin a Confederate. I get all these people confused.)
I have often considered renaming myself with a non-Confederate surname, but I think that ship has sailed.
I await the naming of a Jefferson Davis Hogg school.
I'm sending my nephews to Scratch Perry Regional High School.
Some of you with strong feelings on this may want to vote in Kevin Drum's poll to determine the best Lee
https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2019/06/poll-who-is-the-greatest-lee/
Unbelievably, Drum doesn't even include Sir Christopher as an option, despite his being not only one of the two best Lees but also one of the two best Sir Christophers.
The constitution says you can't name a school after a knighted British person.
