We need to run the government like a business. A really shitty business of the kind that only exists because of inheritance and insufficient estate taxes.
Theoretically, isn't the president repeatedly and openly threatening the Fed try to establish political control over interest rates supposed to be very bad for stable currency?
Theoretically, isn't this particular president very bad for stable currency in general?
The dollar has been strong against the pound lately.
Also strong against the Yuan, which isn't helping the trade war.
The dollar has been largely stable against the dong.
The dollar has been strong against the pound lately.
The Korean People's Won has probably been strong against the pound lately, and I expect it will continue to be.
He is the very model of a very stable currency

Last week, I had the impression that Sanders sounded like Larry David, but now he seems to sound like Super Dave Osborne. I think I'm coming around.
With Warren in the race, I don't suppose I'm going to get an opportunity to vote for Bernie again, but I'm watching the debate and remembering that he's pretty goddam awesome.
I haven't been following TV politics -- haven't seen any of the debates until now. Those Democrats all seem awfully nice. I believe I will vote for one of them in 2020.
God I'm so fucking sick of everything. Got to go have a fucking physical tomorrow. I'm sick all the time now. Fucking greedy assholes at work are destroying this planet while I guard their dollars. What a day, what a day, for an auto-da-fé.
You always hear about those Satanists having their Black Mass and Black Sabbath, but you never hear about whether they also celebrate Black Shrove Tuesday or even Black Easter.
I hope the physical goes well. I used to be afraid of the dentist and glad to see the doctor. Now I'm worried about both of them.
Jerry Falwell says you're only as old as the trainer you hire for your wife.
Hey, back on topic, does anyone know if Trump's done anything to fuck with the FDIC yet? 'Cause wouldn't it be funny if there was a bank run and then we found out that the FDIC was itself compromised?
Oh well, it could always be worse.
Is someone keeping statistically useful score in the swing states?
This is like 4 year old soccer. There's no score.
So everbody wins? The Presidency is divided into 27 pieces?
But I mean, seriously, head-to-head Trump v [candidate] polling in swing states.
I don't think the polling is to be taken very seriously at this point. Most people aren't paying attention: and why should they, The field will winnow down quite a bit more before anyone has to decide how to vote.
You can make your eyes bleed with statistical spreads here, but like Charley says, we're too far out for it to mean much.
Especially with the lesser known candidates.
Will Biden's record player gibberish hurt him? Apparently not!
18: I'm dreaming of a Black Christmas.
18. James Blish wrote a book called "Black Easter." It was a one-off celebration/event in which an evil arms magnate and a sorcerer initiate the Apocalypse, as one does.
Priest: "You need to set a date for the opening of Hell."
Sorcerer: "How about Easter?"
Priest: "ARGGHHH!"
Sorcerer: "I would think that's the least propitious day for Hell, wouldn't you?"
"Black Easter" aka "Faust Aleph-Null" over there. Featured "Theron Ware", name the same as the protagonist of an earlier novel "The Damnation of..."
OT: For those keeping track, the Kavanaugh accusations have moved on from "there's not enough corroborating evidence" to "there is enough evidence but it's too late." Next comes the backlash by the people who blocked the evidence from being made public while it was not too late.
Quoth Ivor:
... fortunately, Bad Boy Ivor came along and did what he did."
If you label something "Hardy Mums", you shouldn't act at surprised when somebody steps on one to check.
The main reason for such a swift victory and at such small cost in life and equipment was that the attackers surpassed the defenders both strategically and tactically. The insight, it blinds me.
