Not reading a book, free or not, but those seemed like useful ways to approach the topic.
Wow, the rent control one is gripping, even with a couple of drinks in me.
I, for one, am down for tipsy Minivet liveblogging!
Oh, sure. But why not try him on hashish or benzos?
If you get a Covid cough, I wonder if you can get the good cough syrup, like from all the songs?
The rent control article is very interesting (and not that it matters, or should matter, but resonates very much with my own family's history).
The peasant's revolt article is very good.
I very much liked the peasant revolt article and appreciated the rent control one. Thanks Ben!
So not only did Floyd and Chauvin work together doing security at that nightclub but they'd also had a history of clashing, chiefly over Chauvin's overly aggressive behavior towards African-American patrons. I don't know Minnesota law but shouldn't there be a charge of 1st degree murder?
I was seriously shocked to learn that Floyd and Chauvin already knew each other, and apparently had a history of clashing over Chauvin's racist aggression.
But a 2nd-degree murder charge that results in an actual conviction is surely preferable to a 1st-degree murder charge ends up going nowhere? And though I'm no lawyer, and don't know Minnesota law, my suspicion is that 1st-degree murder is not all that easy to prove?
Anyone know enough evaluate this piece on the Carabinieri? If Carabinieri can apprehend mafia kingpins without heavy artillery, it should be possible for U.S. police officers to apprehend garden-variety offenders without killing them and without using bullets, helicopters, and armored vehicles. Dysfunctional though it often is, there are a few things Italy can teach the United States. Forceful policing without the use of force is surely one of them.
13: I've never seen Carabinieri who weren't absolutely festooned with implements of destruction. They're very armed and take their status as a paramilitary organization dead seriously. They actually have a deployable airborne regiment.
(although, if we're interested in reorganizing a police force, interesting guy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Young_(police_officer) )
