Obviously the stimulus is deeply inadequate (more for airlines than for public transit!) and the memes are fine, but let's remember it's not literally "everyone is supposed to survive on $600" as some edgelords are positing. In addition there are still significantly enhanced unemployment benefits in it for those on no income, and more EITC for those on little income.
Congratulations on passing your stupid stimulus package, lawmakers.
I think it's possible to be a little more specific than "lawmakers" here.
2: Good point. Although the second paragraph does call them out.
(So you know not to share the image here with $1200 changed to $600 - it compares the generic US payout, without UI, to the other countries' maximum UI or salary replacement, when in fact the latter in scales more to incomes in those countries and is less generous for many at the lower end of the income spectrum.)
Still, I'd rather get my policy views from Alyssa Milano than Scott Baio.
I am on a search committee, and in a recent interview, the candidate paused and gave a long bit on "Let's stop and contemplate the word serve in Hispanic Serving Institution. Why serve? what can we make that mean?" I had to mute myself to keep from explaining.
3: Yeah, I'm hypersensitive to constructions that equate Ds and Rs. It's a Trumpian/Leftist tic but, as you say, not one that heebie is guilty of here.
Dems have been taking and are taking a lot of heat for this, so I don't think this instance is hypersensitive.
I remain mystified that Trump didn't move heaven and earth to get checks out in October. Drunk on his own whiskey, I suppose, but the polling was out there . . .
I think because he would have had to have bailed out state and local governments to have gotten it. He's deeply committed to making blue cities suffer.
I think he's just bad at making any sort of strategic decision.
