This isn't that unusual; I've seen numerous stories on CNN, usually negative ones about the administration, go front page only to disappear completely in a matter of minutes.
Make of it what you will; maybe they are scrubbed because of ties or pressure or maybe the news media actually pulls a story they find out they didn't do their homework on.
My bet is all three, though not necessarily at the same time.
