It's great. The first black justice who isn't a tool appointed to the Supreme Court who since the Civil Rights Era.
She's pretty short. I saw a picture of her with one of my senators and had to double-check that he wasn't weirdly tall.
I'm still kinda surprised Breyer actually did the right thing.
I knew he would all along, but I stayed quiet so I wouldn't jinx it.
She's 5'1". That's shorter than I'm comfortable with in my Supreme Court justices, but as with so many things in our shambolic democracy, no on asked me.
She's the same height as RBG. Gotta maintain shorty representation on the high court.
That's pretty much normal height for a woman in my family.
She'd by 5'9" if it weren't for The Man holding her down.
And I'd bet that none of those women are Supreme Court justices.

Cancelled. 100%.
This is what Bari Weiss warned us about.
The canary in the coal mineshaft.
I already mentioned that she went to my Junior High., right? Like, 2 years ahead of me, she was in 9th while I was in 7th. I'm sure I didn't know her, but we absolutely would have had some of the same teachers. I actually have my 8th grade yearbook, but not 7th, alas.
Re: height, Kagan is 5'3". There's a picture somewhere of her and Cassandane together in an ice cream parlor and they're the same height. And I saw Sotomayor in the grocery store once and she's probably only a couple inches taller.
A couple inches taller than 5'3" is above average height for a woman.
It's pretty short for a grocery store.
I'll be interested to see if I ever think Jackson had the better opinion than Sotomayor. None of the rest of them ever have.
I was worried the confirmation process wasn't moving quickly enough to stay ahead of the GOP smear campaigns, and I guess in a sense it didn't stay ahead, so I felt almost as much relief as excitement when they finally voted.
19: Has become my non-helpful frame for every positive development for progressivism and/or Dems. It often feels like deck chairs on the Titanic. "Whew, we got the lounges up to the sun deck just in time."
Prepare to be disappointed by someone new! Word in the trade press is that, like many judges who were mainly interested in criminal law, she wasn't a friend of the plaintiff in civil cases.

You would not believe how low my standards are these days.
Ditto. I want to go back in time and put Harriet Miers on the Court (Abigoto ended with the spot).
This seems like a group that might know something about Alameda DA candidate Pamela Price. I just learned about her in the midst of looking into various US Title IX anniversary celebrations and initiatives (relevant to my job in a few different ways). It turns out that Price was the last remaining plaintiff in THE legal case that significantly expanded the protections and forms of recourse available through Title IX. https://www.thenation.com/article/society/college-title-ix-history/
Priice's account of her instructor offering her a sex-for-grade swap is plausible, and she has contemporaneous evidence of having quickly informed friends and mentors who made sure she wrote dish details. That judges rejected the claim for what they considered a lack of evidence doesn't weigh much on me considering the larger institutional and societal contexts.
The thing that's got me feeling like I've been punched in the gut is the instructor Price named: my dissertation
(Hit enter too soon....)
The story is about my dissertation advisor. I am having a really hard time processing this, for a lot of reasons.
That's why you have a whole committee.
"Abigoto ended with the spot"
Is that just Spanish for "lawyer"?
Anyway since this thread is slow but vaguely politics related I just wanted to point out that I found the epitome of a bad Drum post. Why won't those left wingers moderate their views on being called pedophiles, fags, and reverse racists?
Glad he admits he has no fucking clue what he's talking about on at least one topic:
It's frankly a little hard for me to accept that sex ed of any sort really needs to be taught much before middle school, but maybe I'm wrong. I haven't been in an elementary school classroom for 50 years, after all. Still, I guess I'd like to hear the argument. I wonder if this is something we should really be supporting at all.
28: No just a typo (ended up), plus a really strained joke spelling of Alito incorporating "bigot."
