That is really interesting; the contrasting notes about Germany and Italy, for example, add a lot of detail.
Yeah, that's a really interesting overview. The Israeli case is particularly weird. I wonder if the formal illegality is some sort of colonial holdover from the Mandate period or something. Jewish law has always permitted abortion so it makes sense that it would be very accessible in practice.
That's a lot of work. They should try consulting.
I think some places you have to get a doctor to verify something, but in practice it's no big deal. I've also heard there are access issues in pats of Canada which make it less than ideal as an option for people from bordering states.
The article doesn't really mention cost, and it only scratches the surface of de facto vs. de jure. The last subhead, "Florida still has more access than much of Europe", seems willfully obtuse.
I was reading parts of the article to my parents, and that section definitely rang hollow.
Florida is the Willfully Obtuse state.
Yes, Scott Lemeiux has ranted about that: https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2022/06/does-france-have-more-restrictive-abortion-policy-than-mississippi-spoiler-no-and-please-stop-pretending-you-know-anything-about-abortion-policy

There's a link for feedback on Reddit at the post, and he's responding. Since this seems likely to get a lot of attention, it's probably worth pointing out errors.
Further on Israel: They further liberalized the abortion laws in direct response to Dobbs. That article does provide some context; the abortion law dates to 1977 and the restrictive elements seem to be a political sop to the Ultra-Orthodox, who don't like abortion even though they generally concede that it's not in violation of Jewish law as traditionally conceived. All of which is very on-brand for Israel.
The Israeli religious far right does seem to be gradually converging with the American one on abortion according to some of the quotes in that article, which, again, very on brand.
Did 8 break the blog for a bit last night?
