I will try but am still, always, already, mid-Bedlam at work.
OT: I was watching A Night at the Opera recently and it occurred to me again that Groucho carries everyone else on screen, with the occasional exception of Harpo, but effortlessly. There ought to be a plaque for his birthplace on East 78th but I couldn't find one.
1, 2: Always. Firm policy here -- if I'd been opposed to meeting randos from blog comments my life would have been much worse over the last fifteen years.
3.1: I will have my fingers crossed.
Great! And based on where I will be staying, I will be able to assess the quality of crosstown bus service.
Crosstown is bad. Go up or down only. Everyone knows that.
Moby's right. No one ever takes the bus in NYC; they're too crowded.
I am very bus resistant in Manhattan -- either subway or walking is generally faster. But East to West side crossing Central Park, or vice versa, is an exception.
It's a skinny island. Like maybe half a mile or so wide.
Do I come to your city and make remarks about dissected plateaus?
It's just that thirty years ago I read somewhere that walking was the best way to cross Manhattan going east-west-ish.
Speaking of New York, but not Manhattan, there's a new show called "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" that's not bad.
I've taken two crosstown buses now, 79th Street and through the Village, and both worked pretty well. I'll try 14th St at some point.
Update, 50-60% chance of rain this afternoon and evening. Will the place still work in that event?
As I recall, it was under a pretty respectable awning, and I think the prediction is "might drizzle a little" rather than "torrential downpour". I think it's fine.
Great. And hey, a break from "hellish" down to just "hot"!
Can we set the time somewhat later? I have a couple of "can't make it before 6:30" rsvps.
Violating the sanctity of off blog communication to confirm that the meetup is now set for 6:30.
I left a late lunch to find it even cooler after the rain. I felt odd, until I realized it was the first time since I arrived Friday night that it wasn't a slog walking through the open air. Is that even allowed??
I am outside at the table closest to the corner -- wearing a black knit dress for identification purposes.
How will a dress help you identify people?
The blog is a shadow of its former self. The knife fight was good though -- can't have a meet up without a knife fight.
I'm old and I think I have arthritis.
So disappointed by the lack of live-blogging!
(No commenters in Portland, Maine, right? We're here till Sunday night.)
