Here at Triangle Shirtwaist Elementary, we stand by our fire prevention efforts.
Also we are renting a house with friends this weekend, and usually I steal off to a library for a few hours when we do this, and the nearest library is Uvalde. Seems grim.
Are we even certain that shelter in place is a good model to follow? Uvalde kids would have been better off running.
The kids' school is new, and the external wall of the classrooms is floor to ceiling glass. I am not quite sure how I feel about it.
If you feel the glass, the janitor will have more work cleaning.
When we did our active shooter training, we were told to run away if we could, and to hide if we couldn't run, and to fight if we couldn't hide. But also: if you're doing any of these when the police show up, they'll probably shoot you. (The training didn't *say* this last part, but it was heavily implied.)

Most police officers don't aim that well anyway.
If the kids bring in enough Campbell's labels, yes.
Peep: We're supposed to rush armed gunmen and hit them with staplers and paperweights, at least according to the film we were shown. But make sure you don't have a stapler in your hand when the police show up! They'll assume its a gun and shoot you down.
Of course here in Arkansas our legislature compelled every campus* in the state to allow concealed carry. So many of our students and some of our professors are, in fact, carrying guns. I assume if you have a gun in your hand when the police show up they'll be even more likely to fire on you, but that doesn't seem to be what my right-wing colleagues believe.
*You can't, however, carry weapons into the legislature. Despite their claim that good men with guns make everyone safer, they don't want armed citizens in their workplace, just ours.
