Re: Really, it's the asbestos

1

Except that asbestos exposure leads to lung cancer due to the ability of the asbestos fibers to penetrate deep into the lungs. Because there is a continuous pathway from the external environment deep into the lungs.

Furthermore, exposure to asbestos is not a guarantee of getting mesothelioma. It depends on how much asbestos was inhaled (as well as some other factors). Only about 2 - 10% of people heavily exposed to asbestos get mesothelioma. But mesothelioma is so rare that if you get mesothelioma then you likely got it from asbestos exposure.

But here the talc is being blamed for ovarian cancer! A different cancer, a different organ, a different theory (???) of how the asbestos got to the afflicted organ. And ovarian cancer is not rare, like mesothelioma. Even assuming a link between ovarian cancer and packing your junk daily with baby power, said junk-packer would still be more likely to get ovarian cancer from another cause.

This bullshit should have been Dauberted out of court.

The woman in the link had mesothelioma.

This makes it seem like a very plausible pathway.

@2-3

Well. I apologize. I looked into this some more and it does seem possible. I'm not convinced about the relationship between Ovarian cancer and asbestos, but the relationship between talc bearing asbestos and mesothelioma seems plausible.

I will now retreat to the corner of shame and wear the hat of shame.

The Texas Two-Step reminds me of when Disney argued it had purchased a company's assets but not its directly associated liabilities (to pay authors royalties). (This particular case was settled.)

Westinghouse did that, except with pensions.

Berezovsky explains capitalism: First, privatize revenues. Second, privatize assets. Then, privatize debts. In primitive Russia, running this process sleectively in reverse requires bribery rather than Akin Gump.
