It's not the worst thing Germany has done.
On topic because the theme is things that are delightfully nonsensical:
There was an upcoming deadline for early registration for a conference. A colleague grumbled that the organizers hadn't sent out a reminder email, so I emailed my friend at the hosting school. She emailed the organizer, and then forwarded me the response:
What happened is that the Section Secretary got the reminder draft email to MAA 12 days ago, but they require a two-week lead time and only send these emails out on Mondays. So there IS a reminder email coming, just a little late. I'm checking to see if I can get the Holiday Inns to extend their conference rate for a few more days.
In other words, the local section of the MAA is not allowed to email their members directly. They have to send the email to the national organization, who then sends the email. I can understand this - you don't want to spam your members, etc.
I just find it amazingly counterproductive - nay, delightfully counterproductive - to require a TWO WEEK'S ADVANCE NOTICE to send emails which then only go out on Mondays. It's like when a bank pretends that a wire transfer takes many days, because none of the rest of us have experience with electricity or pixels, and we're picturing the money getting shrunk down like Mike TeeVee and reconstituted on the other end.
If ActBlue can make sure I get an email asking for $5 from everyone who runs for Congress as a democrat within two minutes of them winning a primary, the MMA can do better.
I feel like it's been awhile since the MAA has faced a serious challenger in the primary that forced them to tighten their game.
Wait. MAA, not MMA. I assumed we were talking about mixed martial arts.
I was able to graciously decode your embarrassing blunder.
I refuse to download the TikTok app, so is the display when not using the app intentionally shitty to make you do so? Between the icons and caption and other scrolling shit you can see about 30% of webpage embedded TikTok videos. In this case half the German and all the English lyrics are obscured.
I don't have tiktok either, and it's super annoying when Hawaii sends me tiktok links because the continuous auto-play seems to override normal rules of any other app. So my phone's browser is suddenly playing music from my pocket, despite me not seeming to be on my phone, and it's a tiktok from a browser tab that I've deleted but now I have to shut down the entire browser to shut it up? THE WORST. Someone should outlaw it.
That's a great variant! Or riff. Or whatever.
I think this is the original that they're playing off of:

I've probably posted it here before because it features words like "Rhababerbarbarabarbarbarenbartbarbier." Prost!
