Re: Say More

Is this the one where the Fox lady talked about "Milwaukee, Minnesota."

The page loaded slowly for me, and before the tweet image loaded, I saw this, presumably describing the content of the video:

Laura Ingraham: If you know Minnesota well, and I know it well -- especially Milwaukee -- it's changed.

Trying to avoid being just all media critic all the time but my God if you want to see a total clusterfuck of "privileging the lie" look up the NYT write up of JD Vance's stolen valor stuff. Completely gives full description up front of JD's BS and puts almost no onus on him for his behavior (maybe a little in the concluding paragraphs). Just crap, utter crap.

But they do find something similar to the accusations about the timing of the retirement timing of a 24-year Army career:

The accusation also recalled similar criticisms that former President Donald J. Trump has faced about avoiding military service. The three-time Republican presidential nominee sidestepped the war in Vietnam thanks to a deferment related to bone spurs in his heel, a medical assessment that was made as a favor for Mr. Trump's father, the doctor's daughter told The New York Times in 2018.

And as an aside in media/politics following, over the past few days, I am seeing what seems to be a more significant dropoff on Twitter than I did in the initial go around of Muskification. Made me start monitoring Threads as normie politics/election folks who leave seem more likely to end up there than Bluesky.

There's only one normie I know of on Blueksky, a guy a went to graduate school with. I'm pretty sure he has no idea who I am.

I'm still (passively) on Twitter, because I follow a lot of Korean language tweeters who haven't migrated over to Bluesky. It's otherwise a total dead zone.

I"m on twitter and Blue Sky. Wary of going on Threads. Is it tied to your Facebook account? My twitter does"t show my full first and last name.

In my case it is linked to my Instagram account which is under this pseud and not linked to my Facebook account. I have no idea if Instagram is theoretically real name only. On twitter I have both pseud and real name accounts. Latter more tightly curated and what I exclusively use now; theoretically less rage-inducing but I am apparently permanently raged these days.

My aspiration was to live out my dotage as a benevolent world weary yet tolerant man "with the detachment of one who has gratified every wish and found every gratification equally transitory*" But turns out, no.

During the initial Twitter diaspora I set up Threads, Bluesky, Mastodon and Post.News accounts. Followed a number of accounts on Threads but most other than standard media outlet accounts had no activity so I really did not use it until recently. I think Post died and have not checked Mastodon in many months.

Did not realize it was taken 18 years before it appeared on the internet.

17: Me, neither!

You reach a certain age, and you think you've seen it all, and that you're aware of all Internet traditions, and then I click on a link, and realize once again that there is so much more to this strange world than I'll ever be able to fathom.
Thanks, Barry!

He had an interesting, and early on, tragic life. The kind of person who loved life to the fullest and was so charming even the cops loved him as they busted him for his various petty crimes (and many prison escapes).

17/18: It seems to have a long internet history, but possibly more among the audience category that's really into viral videos. Last year I got into a song of a lot of samples cobbled together where some of that video was part of the bridge.
