On seeing the graph a guy I know said "well, it's obvious that Bush has broad-based support." Rocky mountain states have roughly the same slope but a different intercept. I claim that this graph has about as much analytical insight as most of the investigations of "battleground states" -- and you should find that pretty disquieting.
This requires a better research. Because we can assume:
a) fat people voted for Bush
b) people, surrounded by fat people, voted for Bush
In case a) expect Bush04 to offer free mayonese and ice cream, in case b) to send supporters with artificial bellies in the malls.
