I feel exactly the same way. The family could all go to, say, Switzerland for a two year "educational experience". Then we could return refreshed, and ready to work for John Edwards '08.

Yeah, the greatest thing the EU could do is respond to a Bush reelection with a petulant gesture intended to alienate the American government and 99% of self-respecting US citizens. That would be awesome!

Aren't they having unemployment problems in Europe? That'd be a pretty compelling reason not to do it.
No doubt we are using different definitions of self-respect. I hold the old fashioned view that nations should not take blatantly partisan positions with respect to the democratic elections of theirallies. I would hope any Frenchman would tell the US to go Leahy itself if we did any such thing. And I would not take kindly to a petulant pro-Bush gesture either (if, perhaps Israel declared a "day of mourning" after Kerry's election.
Not all of Europe is suffering unenployment problems. Luxembourg has lower unemployment than the USA, I worked there last summer. It is not too difficult if you have the right education and skills to get jobs in Europe, and European companies are often very happy to get someone with education and work experience in the USA.
