Actually, I'm making a very conscious effort to try to keep down to no more than 20 entries a day (or so), as a rule, under the belief that it's unlikely enough that anyone will read, or even scroll through, even that many, given that I often excerpt at what's some length (despite my strong efforts to try to do what my enthusiasm considers the absolute minimum -- I mean, ya ya gotta read this part, man!; ya just gotta!), rather than, shall we say, Instapundit style -- or Unfogged style. (I'm working on trying to go shorter; but you damn people just won't click when you must, I tell you, you must! -- I'm too convinced.)
And I try, actually, to a large, though not rigid, degree, to stay away from the Really Big Front-Page stories that I know everyone's going to read, anyway, except when I just really want to say something about them, or hope I have something worthwhile to ad, or I'm just overcome with "!!!"
I'm not sure there's an immodest way to say this, but if I blogged everything interesting I read in a typical day, I'd have something upwards of 60-80 posts on a lot of days.
Of course, some days I don't have so much reading time, and some days I take a lot of time off to mindlessly play computer games or something. Bad health! It's great for free time! Like having all your possessions burn up in a fire, I don't (from experience) actually recommend it, however.
But you are very kind. (Now if I could just get people to comment on my blog....)
Ah, see, I was going to say, in response to your last comment about folks not reading, that, in my humble opinion, the excerpts are too long. I'll admit that one of the reasons I read blogs is so that I don't have to read every damn interesting article. If someone I trust summarizes and comments, mission accomplished, time saved. So, speaking for myself, when I see a long excerpt, I usually think, "fuck a duck, I might as well just read the damn article."
I haven't figured out the commenting thing. Seems to me that people will usually comment about what they know about, and will comment more if others have already commented...you could always comment on your own blog as Mary Garber...
Oh, and I wonder what others will say about this, but from caching articles here, I have a pretty good idea that only about 25% of people click links, and I wonder how many read the excerpts.
