Identity was good. The plot twist was clever, but I kind of wish it had remained a hard-edged thriller to the end. It was nice to see Cusack in a role where he isn't whiny and bitter.
Down with Love was fantastic -- smart, fun, and impeccably put-together.
I saw Ewan McGregor interviewed once on a late-night show. (Letterman, Leno... who cares!) He was over the top in some respects, but low-key about his movie career. What I continue to remember about the interview was Ewan saying that he just wanted to make good movies. Not be famous or cool. Just make good movies.
For a long time I have been short on heros, but lately I've started to rack them up. I find that the people I respect and admire are the true professionals who are dedicated to their craft, who work hard and are serious about producing good work without making a lot of fuss about themselves. I've added Ewan to the list. Another interesting addition has been Andre Agassi, who charts a course from lightweight hypertalented pretty-boy to serious and dedicated professional.
Back to Ewan, though... he really has made some excellent choices in movies. Moulin Rouge, which was a very cool change-up from your average movie. Trainspotting, which was #@$%ing fantastic. Down with Love, which was the sharpest, funniest movie I've seen in a while. Black Hawk Down. I even forgive him Star Wars, since no man should be expected to turn down the chance to step in the shoes of a young Alec Guiness / Obi Wan.
(He's had some real losers as well... Eye of the Beholder? Blech!)
