Re: Joke

What guy who self-identifies as "funny" hasn't at least toyed with that sexist stereotype?

I'm trying to reconcile this post with your comment at Belle's post...

Maybe this'll help: the title of this post is "Joke." Next time, it'll be "Hey Apostropher! (and Ted H.), this is a Joke!!!"

Adam, are you serious? Just as Belle says, I've found men and women to be funny in about equal numbers. Unless I should be reading that comment strictly to be about self-identified funny guys, who are a very strange group, and might believe all manner of odd things.

Ogged and Apostropher - beavis and butthead of liberal blogdom. Or should that be blogdumb.

Speaking of Ted H., does anyone know what happened to diachronic agency?

Best as I can tell, Ted was pretty freaked out by the reaction to Ward Churchill, and thought it not out of the question that things he had written could be taken out of context and used to threaten his employment. So he took the site down, and what's left is just so that Google will "overwrite" the older entries with blanks. It's too bad. I didn't link much because I knew he didn't like it, but it was a great blog.

Wow. That sucks. Makes me glad my boss is a crazy libertarian.

Pity. There was a lot of good, thought-provoking stuff there. I'll miss reading him.

Self-identified funny men are more likely to notice other funny men because they hate them -- they provide unnecessary competition; you need to waste your jokes trying to best the other guy who's trying to be "the funny guy" when you could be flirting or just generally basking in admiration.

In terms of just making one laugh, though, yes, absolutely, women are every bit as funny as men.

I think of my self as a funny guy (no, really) and I notice other funny people because I like funny people. Another evolutionary-psychology theory laid to waste, I'm afraid.
