Why not just reverse the order of comments? New ones go on top.
The short, but true, answer is that no one else does it that way.
No one important, I suppose. (I do it on my blog) But it does seem like it would solve the problem of being able to link directly to comments while maintaining the convenience of being taken to the latest comment when opening a new thread. Don't be afraid to be a trendsetter.

Me too. Mostly because I support whatever Ben supports... But also because it's just a plain ol' bad idea.
Would it be possible to arrange comments alphabetically by first word? It would make searching easier.
Here's one reason. As it stands, it's only inconvenient if there are so many comments that there's no link to the newest-to-you comment (henceforth ntyc) on the front page. Otherwise, you simply click that link and then read and scroll down. In the even that there's no link for the ntyc, you first scroll up to it, then read and scroll down. Under your proposed system, one would have to do this: follow link to, or otherwise find, the ntyc comment. Read it down. Scroll up to the next comment. Read it down. Scroll up, read down. Why complicate things? 27's reasoning is also quite sound.
Also, it's perfectly acceptable in cases such as comment 4 to leave out the pronoun.
It would make it harder to read through the conversation--it's not like most of these stand on their own. For instance, if I were to say "'I oppose this innovation that Michael proposes' or 'I oppose this innovation, which Michael proposes'" someone who got to that without having read your #5 wouldn't know what I was talking about.
(FTR: #4 and #5 are both acceptable. You can drop 'that', and it's OK to use 'which' to introduce a restrictive clause.)
(Also: if you want blog love, you should put your URL in with your comments. I googled "michael" and I'm still not sure which one you are.)
You might think so, you dastardly Weiner, but newer versions of MT (this blog included!) use the rel="nofollow" attribute in the anchor tags in comments, so google doesn't include them in its indexing. This is supposed to decrease the efficacy and, presumably, the volume of comment spam.

(1) The antecedent of the first 'it'

(4) What the contextual domain restriction of "all links" is
(5) What linking to my home page with "let's find out" is supposed to accomplish.

Looking at Joe's site, I can't recommend "The Dirt" (the Mötley Crüe oral auobiography) highly enough- I've given it out as a birthday/xmas gift to family and friends for a couple of years now, and it's consistently the best thing they get.
