Well, it depends on whether the counter in question counts total hits or unique IPs. The server stats you're looking at are probably for total hits, and the disparity is accounted for by page refreshes, which shows up on mybloglog because it filters for unique IPs. Sitemeter also does that, so I don't think this disparity is very widespread.
No, that's not it, the server distinguishes "unique" visitors from page views. You can see a sample here.
Hmmm... well, I know I read from both work and home, which I get the impression does not put me in the minority here. So that could account for a lot of extra unique IPs. And I imagine this isn't the only blog where that happens.
Yeah, well, sitemeter says that I get 3,400+ visitors every day to my blog that I never update. That can't possibly be an accurate gauge of blog popularity. Unfogged definitely has more visitors than I do (or at least deserves more). So I'm not sure what to say about these tracking programs.
The built in tracker for Typepad places my daily hits in the 17,000+ range, which sounds even sillier.
I tried the MyBlogLog thingie, also, and I've gotten 15 visitors in the first 5 minutes of putting it in. So extrapolate that ... umm, yeah, that's not right either. We'll see what happens after a day or two.
But aren't you *the* source for Arab celebrity porn? I'm kinda serious.
Heh. Good point. Although, for the record, it's only the one porno. I actually have others, but I haven't posted any of them. Also, I don't think you're as serious as you pretend to be.
Another thing: do you have a system that tells you when people comment on your blog so that you can respond instantly, or do you obsessively look at your own blog?
I get an email whenever someone comments. What I don't understand is how quickly everyone else sees what's posted here.
No, I am serious, though I might be wrong, about the Arab porn. If you're near the top of the results for some common term, you could be getting a lot of traffic that way.
Oh, that's what you were serious about? That makes more sense.
Yeah you are definitely right, I mean I've got more arabic comments on my posts than the Islamists over at al Qalah.
