Typical dealer behavior. He gets you hooked for free, and then tells you there's no more coming for a while. Unless....
YES! This is my opening to bring the entire Unfogged audience over to my site -- I'm sure that the transition from punchy little linky posts on politics to agonizingly long link-free posts on philosophy and religion will be smooth and painless.
Haloscan is waiting for you, guys. Hell, Fontana, Bob, Unf, Alameida -- you're all totally welcome to join up. Well, except Unf, because he's conservative, but who would be able to tell whether he was there or not?
BWAHAHAHAHA!
He gets you hooked for free, and then tells you there's no more coming for a while. Unless....
You blow me, I'll blog it.
So I guess that fellowship will no longer be necessary.
well, ogged has just crashed right through the "Someone might think I'm gay" barrier.
I'm curious about the decision. I can understand the notion, "I'm wasting too much time on blogging when I should be doing X". Once a day I promise myself I'll check unfogged once in the moring and once in the evening, and that's it. And some day I'll actually do it.
But is that what it is, and if so, what's X? Obviously, ignore this if it's intrusive. I just think that you've managed to build what is probably every semi-regular commenter's favorite web stop, and I'd imagine it would be hard to walk away from that success, however temporarily. It make me wonder if X is, "Tomorrow: plan to take over the world."
You blow me, I'll blog it.
Will you be live-blogging it?
Good luck out there. Send word back to the shadow cave.
You blow me, I'll blog it.
Hee. And I'll I have to do to get ogged to blog is go out on a date :)
Speaking of which ... will a reservation be made for us at The Greens again? baa?
It make me wonder if X is, "Tomorrow: plan to take over the world."
X = Tomorrow: Talk to one of those things with ovaries.
Damn. Well, my billable hours should go up.
Tim, if I were able to practice blogging as a discrete activity, I wouldn't quit; I love the blog, and I know the community here is a rare good thing. But I haven't had the discipline to keep blogging in its little box, and in the time and attention it demands, it's more like a lifestyle than an activity. But, as a lifestyle, it leaves a lot to be desired, because it crowds out the other pleasures that are rooted in the same desires: if I were a mountaineer, an hour a day spent reading books would be rewarding and restorative, but if I squeeze in an hour of book-reading as a blogger, it just makes my eyes hurt more. In terms of temperament, I'm usually either all in or all out, and I just need to get out for a while.
You FUCKER! You're planning...no, scheming...to have sex before me! In hopes of getting you to stop this fool plan, I will go to Whole Foods at lunchtime, to select a very good-sized ear of corn for tin-foil wrapping.
Anyway, I just hope you get back in at some point.
Not that this has anything to do with the subject at hand, but do you know if FL saw the article in this Sunday's NYT on Stover at Yale?
I recommend Silenus's advice, substituting blogging for life. It was best never to start blogging, but the best thing you can do, once you've begun, is to quit quickly and painlessly.
And that goes for all bloggers.
Enjoy the time off. And, there is, of course, such thing as a free lunch...
So... party at w-lfs-n's place?
(Jonathan, at first I read that to mean that Silenus's advice was to substitute blogging for life. That's advice many of us have taken.)
In the meantime, Matt, isn't there a little news you want to share? (I did assume I'd read it first at Unfogged, but alas I just heard it from a flesh-n-blood interloper. Still, I thought I'd hear it from you first here, where so much else is --advertently or inadvertently -- revealed.)
Matt, it sure would be nice to hear some good news from your direction, so I could hate my profession just a little bit less.
this is going to be like when the football coaches leave practice in mock disgust, in order to see how the kids respond. If we keep commenting, ogged will love us extra.
It's more like waking up and finding a note from your dad saying, "Going out. Be back in a few months...probably." And - to incorporate Unf, FL, Alameida, and Bob - your mother is a wacky southern party girl who's fun when she's around, but who isn't that good at being a responsible parent.
Unfogged.com is: Home Alone IV - Who Needs MacCauley?
You know, ogged claimed he was going to post a follow up to the recent post on religion. I feel cheated -- especially since I planned to be very dogmatic in the comments about how judgmental a religious person may be about the quality of someone else's religious observance. (As a non-religious person myself, I suffer under no such handicap.)
So ogged -- you're just going to leave us hanging until you come back?
Um, yes? It was going to be about the transformative power of religious ideals, like baa mentioned. Maybe he'd like to finish it up.
Hmphf. Well, enjoy the real world while you're out there.
Awesome news, M-dog. TT at TT: sweet. I hope you're not sober right now.
Oddly enough, I've been sober since I've heard, though I don't think my students can tell. But I'm going to NYC this weekend, and some non-soberness will be involved.
Congrats, Matt. Welcome to the ranks of the chronically-unhappy-with-no-good-excuse :)
Congratz Matt! My sis just graduated from the Master's program there, not in philosophy though.
Maybe this means that wireless internet access in class will stop being the bane of my existence. Or, less hyperbolicaly, lead to better note taking and overall attentiveness. Maybe, but almost certainly not. Also, congratulations Matt.
Don't let those right-wing engineering students give you any bullshit, Matt.
It's kind of hard for me to complain too loudly since I've also been away a little trying to pump up my second career, or at least trying to keep it from dieing from neglect.
Keep the door open. Now and then is better than never.
Delurking to say I'll miss your posts...I check Unfogged a couple of times a day just to see what ogged's currently going on about. Enjoy your hiatus...perhaps you'll come back rejuvenated.
That's it, I'm reading the archives.
Too bad about the timestamps, though.
You could've at least let us throw you a comments party!
Enjoy your time off, Ogged.
