CT's great, with a remarkable roster. But just b/c I'm troubled by the earnestness of your post: Rank 'Em! My list is as follows (grouped, in order):
Group 1: Healy, Davies, Barlow, Waring;
Group 2: Quiggin, M. Farrell, Farrell, Holbo;
Group 3: Brighouse, Hargittai;
Group 4: The Rest.
I understand one of them is dating Yoko.
I agree, Ted Barlow totally kicks ass.
Hey, I inoculated myself! I said that they're all great; we're talking about very small differences here. Personal preferences, even! And I thought we were all snark, all the time! I guess this is the New Earnestness, the New Decency. Soooorry!
(But admit it; you're list looks just like mine).
I deny a list. (Except that I'd make a group 5, and put Hargittai in it. Take that, New Decency.)
Let's do this for Unfogged posters.
Then we can do it for Unfogged commenters.
I'll go first:
1. Alameida (duh)
2. Labs, Unf, Bob
3. *crickets crickets*
Actually, Lungfish, you've reminded me to do something I've meant to do:
Total Unfogged posts: 3209
Ogged: 2405, 75%
Fontana: 357, 11%
Bob: 261, 8%
Unf: 146 5%
Alameida: 40, 1%
I guess that makes you a glutton for punishment.
Ranked in order of frequency of posts (roughly posts/week):
Ogged: 21.47
Fontana: 5.95
Alameida: 4.44
Bob: 2.86
Unf: 1.3
I'd like to see a graph of post frequency over time. Anyone?
I'd like an Irish and water, and someone else to write this piece of crap for me. This motion is simply too dull to write. (And a sure loser -- we're just keeping the client happy.)
As far as ranking commentators go, the #1 is easy enough to determine - we all know what that is.
Here's the data as an Excel file. (Numbers bit different because I took out unposted drafts.)
Michael, how many weeks were you figuring? Those posts/week seem high.
I am so going to play with that excel file when I get home.
I just counted the ones listed on the archives. So, I counted 112 weeks as the total lifespan of Unfogged.
LB, you're not having much of a time at work today. Maybe you can spice it up a bit? Write sentences with words the first letters of which spell "this client is a big dummy" or something?
Or perhaps quit my job and regroup with Mr. Breath and the kids, running a fish and chips shack on the beach in the Bahamas.
Or that, though my plan is much easier, and pays better, and can enlist the help of the other commenters.
Here's the data as a pivot table, with one very hard-to-read chart (which you should be able to play with, by adding trend lines and the like). 1MB file.
Grouping by week would make the chart much easier to read, but I couldn't get Excel to do that.
And I am done (or at least I've sent drafts off to the partner. They suck, and I'm going to spend the weekend rewriting them after I get comments back, but I can go home now.).
Life would be so much easier if I weren't such a slow, painful writer.
Alameida is the victor in the average length of a post title contest, averaging 25.45 words/title; Fontana Labs is a close second with 24.31. Bob manages 22, while the original co-founders, Unf and Ogged, languor below twenty, with 18.06 and 16.65, respectively.
I think either your calculations or your units may be off.
Duh, characters, not words. Not thinking.
In words (calculated by just breaking on whitespace) it's FL 4, Bob 3.7, Ogged 2.8, Alameida 4.3, Unf 3.2.
The last six posts on CT are all quite good, possibly the best material I've seen there for a month or two.
I dropped Bertram, somehow - probably just before or just after Holbo. (For the sake of historical accuracy - "The Rest" was intended to ref. people I don't remember reading).
