Re: Hamann

ebl wasn't the Jewish one, was she? 'Cause naming a Jewish kid "Hamann" would be seriously fucked up.

Unless his Metacritique is very short, you can't read it all without registering and using multiple amazon accounts, as it keeps track of how many pages total you've read in a given book.

How short is very short? I think the MC is about 15 pages.

Oh, then you can probably do it. Naturally I didn't bother to check my facts before posting nonsense to unfogged.

Wow. But those are totally engineering geeks, not philosophy geeks.

Let me guess; philo geeks have cooler frames for their coke-bottle glasses.

We're all about the thick black plastic frames.

That's right, actually. And they'd be wearing darker (monochromatic) clothes.

Fuck. Yeah, it was. I was going to ask - what's a philo PhD like? Most of the PhD's I know (all, I think) are actually science geeks, and they seem to need to complete a project (i.e. , get to a point where they get useable data) to finish. So the life-cycle varies a fair bit (I've heard 3 years and I've heard 8 years). Do you have to do "important work" to get your philo PhD? (I've never really thought about getting a PhD, so I guess I'm wondering at the process for humanities types).

Ignore if these questions are annoying.

Giving the actual philosophy PhDs a chance to answer...

"Important Work" is antithetical to the function of a true philosopher.
