Why does anyone ever buy an American car?
I wonder the same thing. I mean, if you work in some government jobs, or for one of the automakers, then ok, but otherwise, there's just no reason.
I drive a Saturn and while it has been okay, it has only been okay.
My last test drive of a Saturn was not okay, at least compared to, of all things, a Ford Focus which I bought.
But my baby is a Mustang and it is because of an adolescent crush I never got over. I agree it is not rational. Yes, a red mustang. Yes, I am 48. No, I am not impotent. The color is hot red, not impotent red.
Given that I drive the lamest car on the planet (powder blue 1995 Ford Taurus station wagon), I can tell you why some people buy American cars. When you buy them used, they're cheap.
(We hardly use the damn thing -- it was the cheapest vehicle we could find that would fit two kids in carseats and a medium-sized dog. The rattle in the driver's side door was pretty annoying untill we opened it up and took out all the crushed beercans.)
By the way, what the hell is Ogged talking about? (I have confirmed the existence of a GM recall, but I don't understand the rest of the post.)
It's from the end of the comments to "Hotness" -- someone mentioned what a good idea it would be to punch Mickey Kaus in the face, and the discussion turned to a specific Kaus post that blamed quality control problems in American cars on UAW members drinking at lunch, without a whole lot of evidence. I called Kaus some names, and ogged revealed that Kaus is actually his secret identity.
See what you miss when you don't read all the comments?
"Someone" = me. I'm going to go apply for that fellowship now.
For the sake of posterity: Comment on "Hotness"
Incidentally, "punch Kaus in the face" was spurred, in particular, by remembering his trashing of Alexandra Kerry for wearing a dress that turned see-through when exposed to flash photography.
Well, that establishes "Mickey is wrong." It doesn't establish "Mickey needs punched in the face" quite so well as the Barlow link.
Sure enough. Unfortunately, I was one of the people initially discomfited by the Mary Cheney mention.
Right, but not all giggly about the dress. Also, the dress thing gave Mickey the chance to show off his amazing ability to cling to his initial uncharitable interpretation of events long after it's been flat wrong. (I guess this falls under "You're not going to stop reading him, and I'm not going to start unless God deems my sins to be truly vile.")
his amazing ability to cling to his initial uncharitable interpretation of events long after it's been flat wrong
This is one of his gifts, it's true.
