Posts like this drive me crazy. (You're driving me crazy, ogged!)
Now I want to know what it was about.
It was a joke that touched peripherally on the torture issue -- I left a stupid comment that looked as though it were going to reignite the whole weary discussion again, some other people commented, and ogged, sensibly, decided to to delete the post rather than cycle through all the same arguments one more time.
Torture is OK! And why do you all hate America?
Unrelated but necessary item! The BBC reports "US anger at Saddam underwear shot". Caption:
The Sun said it "thought long and hard" before publishing.I believe them.
Um, innuendo aside, The Sun made a grave error of judgment. Let's try not to burnish that reputation for humiliating our enemies too much, okey-dokey? Can we all agree on that?
Same picture was on the cover of the NY Post. I don't believe they can agree to that.
C'mon, we can't humiliate *Saddam Hussein?* Seriously, folks...
OK: Saddam as Satan's gay lover with an giant, bulbous cock.
Not OK: Saddam in his underoos.
I am totally serious.
*Saddam Hussein?*
Punctuation goes outside the twinkly emphasis.
Also from the article:
The US said the photos appeared to breach Geneva Convention rules on the humane treatment of prisoners of war.No, no, fuck you very much.
I dunno. I'm OK with the linked picture; at a minimum, I think there are probably important insights to be drawn from the fact that Hussein wears tighty-whities.
This doesn't really bother me that much -- I mean, I guess it depends on the provenance of the picture, and if it was deliberately released it's certainly improper, but it isn't something I can get all that worked up about.
I did not need to know that he wears tighty-whities, but no wonder he wasn't a good leader!
Ogged -- next election you should order up some of those superhero undies for your candidate of choice. Bet they'll win if they wear them.
I am very concerned that I may be coming in to the left of LizardBreath on this, but if someone in the U.S. military released this to the press, they are in trouble. Is this as bad as torturing people? Of course not. But it is unambiguously on the list of things that should not be done.
Hey, I said 'certainly improper' -- the day you come into the left of me on anything, I'm going to be doing some serious re-examination of my beliefs, and possibly checking myself into a Trotskyist re-education camp for a tune-up.
How come the Geneva Convention rules must not be breached but the Geneva Conventions are "quaint?"
My, but America wakes quickly. All day nothing, then i go out for a while and the place fills up, already.
So "Good morining, America, how are ya?"
I had no idea trains could type.
(Although I suppose I'd been accepting the idea that they could sing...)

LB, because I do not want to embarrass you in front of your friends here, I will not describe the many ways in which you are a conservative, non-libertarian Republican.
(mumble mumble grrrr ratzenfratzen). See if I ever point you to any interesting blogs again, smart guy.
I can't beleive that hasn't been photoshoped. I mean, think of the possibilities.
