You know, this kind of thing is why I don't like any of the prominent artists from Japan—the ones who do really well over here. Like Murakami or Mariko Mori. They make these codified, concentrated efforts to explain what a nutty place Japan is, and the work is clever and is bought up quickly, but it's never so acute as the things you find after clicking a link preceded by some statement about what a crazy effin' place Japan is.
Is the Murakami to which you refer Haruki, the other Murakami novelist, or a visual artist? Because I wouldn't have described Haruki Murakami that way, not at all.
And, you know, he's the one that comes to my mind first, you see.
