The worst part is, there's no way to get the American people to give even the smallest fuck. The administration's attitude toward poor minorities is simply a microcosm of white upper class attitudes generally.
Don't you mean "War on the Poor?"
The "War on the Poor" is more accurate than the "War on Terror," taking any reading of accurate into consideration.
It really crushed me to read over the Republican Study Committee's proposed Katrina-related spending offsets a while back. Half a trillion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. Republicans aren't willing to pay for health care for the poor; are they willing to step over bodies in the streets?
They sure aren't willing to rescind their tax cuts for the ultra-rich. I don't mean the wealthy, or the rich, or the very rich, I mean the ultra-rich.
here in the UK, the ruling Labour Party seems to be getting its jollies by making illegal some of the favorite pursuits of the the toffs (i.e., the landed gentry who have held too much power for too long). there's now a ban on fox hunting, with the result that you have Eton-educated twits practicing acts of Ghandiesque civil disobedience so that they can continue to let dogs tear foxes to pieces while they enjoy a drunken laugh.
This country is nothing if not an education on classes.
snees--One of the biggest Labour supporters I know loves the fact that the hunts existed, although I will say that she doesn't believe in comprehensives. But otherwise full go. (Her father was a lawyer for miners in Wales who suffered from lung disease.)
bg--can you translate that into American?
