Two things.
1. May we please, please, stop using the phrase, "Some would say", and its variants? If not, could we all repeatedly say, broadcast, that it ought to serve as a sign writ in mile-high flaming letters, "I hereby surrender any claim to integrity, thanks"?
2. That word, that word which is to Americans quite beyond the pale, is used as a term almost of affection among certain Brits of my acquaintance. Very odd.
Also, you know about this, right? I find the alleged provenance a little improbable, though.
Oh man, that was enjoyable. I don't know why I didn't click on the link earlier, but slol's 2. in comment 1 piqued my curiousity, and I was well rewarded.
Has anybody ever discerned an orginal opinion from K-Lo? The other Cornerites are cheerleaders and hacks, of course, but most of them have a few idiosyncracies, a few distinguishing issues they hold dear, an allowable minor disagreement with Standard Policy. But K-Lo? She's like site admin.
Man, this thread was going along great until you killed it J/M.
Perhaps it's just a reflection of the inherent triviality of the post.
Perhaps it's just a reflection of the inherent triviality of the post.
Yeah, I guess there is that.
No, M/tch is killing it, but with a one comment delay- so it's frustrating to us that he kills comment threads and frustrating to him that he can never get in the last word.
4: Well, she seems to be in favor of depriving us of the vote. That's, if not original, at least interesting.
I always think of her as having a special scary-Catholic-schoolgirl flair. She's a type familiar to me gone terribly wrong.
No, seriously, I don't care about getting in the last word.
Since we've had this problem before.
4: JM, Kate O'Beirne might be just as bad as--if not worse than--K-Lo.
They're not all hacks and cheerleaders. Richard Brookhiser isn't a cheerleader. I'm not competent enough in history to judge whether he's a hack, but I'm inclined to doubt that he is. (eb--what do you think?) It is, however, true that he doesn't post there as often as some of the others do.
O'Beirne should be pelted with eggs, but at least she's written a book. K-Lo, not so much. Even that column LB linked is rank boosterism of her fellow Cornerite's book, veiled in ideological sneering at a TV show.
I don't know much about Brookhiser. I'm kind of interested in his Adams family book, though. Maybe I'll read it this year.
I seem to be the only one here who doesn't read the Corner and doesn't know who posts there.
I seem to be the only one here who doesn't read the Corner and doesn't know who posts there.
No, I also don't and don't.
Don't think I can't do to other threads what I did to innocence.
Don't think I won't kill and eat you, ben.
Ben -- the other, other white meat.
Actually, in 25, "23" s/b "14".
You know, victory doesn't taste nearly so sweet as I had imagined it.
It's still kind of pleasant though.
27, 29: How the $%*# would you know?
Apostropher knows, M*tch. And M^tch knows apostropher knows.
When was apostropher ever victorious?
A hero? Yes.
Victorious? I don't think so.
Says the man with nary a legitimate vowel to his name.
Yeah, but you don't have any legitimate punctuation marks in yours. So unvictorious.
You know, I'm beginning to like this whole Supreme Victor gig.
You know, gloating is very unbecoming. If you keep it up, those of us who don't actually care might start messing with you, just on general principles.
