M. -- Where's convenient for you?
Depending on what time, I can probably go anywhere. I'll be in Midtown until about 5 or 5:30 for this meeting. We can meet up somewhere in that general vicinity--or elsewhere, if it's more convenient for other people; I want to maximize convenience for the people who want to come.
I don't have any particular attachment to this place, but I'm going to nominate it anyway just to get things started: Baker Street Pub on 66th and 1st Ave.
If people didn't mind pricey drinks, and wanted to organize their lives around being convenient for me, the Campbell Apartment is in Grand Central and is very pretty.
I honestly have no idea (have I mentioned that I've never been to NYC before? This is very exciting). Looks like I'll be at about Broadway and W 52nd Street. Does that mean it's West?
7: I've never been, but remember hearing there is a dress code. This doesn't mean we couldn't meet there, but has to cut against it, yes?
Anyone going to Fargo anytime soon?
People are probably asking about the Minnesota Twins performance this year. The problem is that they were hampered by key injuries to Liriano, Radke, and Stewart.
10: Jeez, Emerson, nobody's ever managed to come to Boston either.
7: Yeah, there is a dress code, but it's sooo beautiful. I'll forgo my sneakers and jeans regime if people want to meet there.
Not going to Fargo, but I am going to Oakland soon. Anyone here live there?
How about Portland OR in mid December?
I've already seen New York. Nice town.
dagger aleph, ask w-lfs-n for directions for Oakland.
I live in driving distance, as does Megan. And our generous host.
To continue the meetup chorus: Anyone coming to Paris anytime soon? (Even though I am an very infrequent poster, I think I would like to meet some of you.)
I forgot about the dress code. It's not draconian (we aren't talking jacket and tie) but yeah, no sneakers, no jeans.
yeah, that's W. Midtown, M. LeBlanc. Here's where I am embarrassed that I lived around there and still don't feel competent to recommend a bar. But I recommend that we do not go to First Ave. I'll try to think of something.
There's some good places on 8th Ave. in the high 40s, low 50s, I think. Can't think of names right now though.
There's that place Zanzibar on Ninth. I've never been; it always seemed simultaneously too cool and too yuppie for me and I was intimidated, but maybe all of us could empower each other.
Re. Campbell Apartment, I have read very negative things about their labor practices, if that makes a difference to anybody. It's a few years back and I don't remember the content but it left a strong enough impression that I would probably not want to go there. Stuff on 9th Ave., though it's a bit of a walk, tends to be very much fun.
(Not totally sure I can go anyway; but I hope to. What about that place on 35th where you guys met up last time, was that any good?)
25: I've been there a bunch of times over the last couple of years and am tired of it.
24: Crap, I've been there a fair amount. Thank you for tipping me off.
It may be that karaoke night at the gay bar is only my idea of a good time, so perhaps?
13 - Ben will say he's going to your meetup...
If we have a smaller # of people than some of the previous meetups, we'd have more flexibility with where we're meeting. Can we get a head count?
M. Leblanc, does this mean you're not going to be at Northwestern Thurs.?
Anyone else in Chicago? I moved here Sunday, I know about 5 people other than my husband, and my new law firm is based in Philly so I won't meet anyone through work. [/pathetic]
I live here in Chicago, so does Adam Kotsko. Many other people have connections here and often visit. North Side?
Yeah, I won't be able to attend the teach-in on Thurs. That's ok, though, because the guy I'm traveling with is one of the guys doing the teach-in, so I'll get to pick his brain.
Headcount so far:

Oh my dear sweet lord I'm going to hell. Um, I won't be there -- tomorrow's my anniversary.
But enjoy!
Oh my god. I just forgot that tomorrow is my birthday. But my party is the 13th, and I'm happy to spend it with you guys.
29: w-lfs-n's unreliable?
34: Bummer.
35: Yay!
34 -- Happy Anniversary, LB!
Who wants to chip in for a present for T(itan)ia?
34: Bummer that you're unavailable, that is. Yay for the anniversary!
I don't need a present! M. Leblanc is the guest of honor.
Nine years. Doesn't seem that long.
Adam lives in Lincoln Square, M. Leblanc in Andersonville, and I in West Rogers Park. All North and West of you, but we're often around. My son goes to Lincoln Elementary, for instance, a block south of Fullerton, right behind Children's Hospital at Fullerton and Lincoln.
Happy Anniversary, LB — and Birthday, Tia! You're on a faster track than I in this as in everything else: On my ninth my second was seven months old. The anniversary of a cheap, small, simple wedding is a happy occasion in my experience.
cool. I, uh, need to learn exactly where those neighborhoods are (I've heard of all of them but the only time I spent here I was studying for the bar exam.) I'm on Fullerton & Clark, so your son's school is really really close to me.
And the place we had our reception is now a very nice little restaurant in Fort Tryon Park, so we have a natural anniversary date.
44 -- on my ninth, my eldest was not yet 2.
We should meet soon after this NYC excursion is over.
44, 48: I was knocked up three weeks after my first anniversary. (Actually, I think I was knocked up on my first anniversary, but it didn't stick. I got pregnant again instantly, though.)
Yes, those are immensely pleasant memories, especially for people who've been careful. In a way, it feels like the last act of consummation.
"Careful' in what sense?
Definitely more west coast meetups. I might could use an excuse to drive up to the Bay Area and/or fly to Portland. But I have to admit I'm probably not flying to Portland in mid-December, much as I'd like to, since instead I'm probably flying to Atlanta, then Philly, for Xmas itself.
That said, come on, people. LA is like a huge urban metropolis, and DominEditrix, eb, and I all live in or around it. Anyone else? We should schedule something of our own.
Careful theretofore always to use protection. W/o exception.
You know, I actually never could bring myself to have sex without *some* form of birth control. Too freaky, too deliberate. PK was a condom baby because the actual decision to try to get pregnant was one I was (and apparently still am) not capable of making.
56: I'm primitive enough to have found it exciting, as I intimated above; something worth considering for those of us with overstuffed mental closets.
Tia, your birthday! And you're going to hang out with us?! Awesome.
I think the Baker Street place that w/d suggested sounds good, but I'll be relatively dressed up anyway, so I don't mind going to that Campbell apartment place. I also like karaoke a great deal.
54 - LA meetup - How about the first weekend in November? I'll be visiting my folks.
San Fran meetup this weekend or next? Anyone? Anyone?
60 - After Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, near Golden Gate Park?
Haven't settled on my exact travel dates yet, but that could work.
District Unfoggetariat meet-up . . . more or less every weekend. Though this weekend (I think) I'll be meeting stanley.
Actually, 'Smasher, I'm coming to DC for 5 days starting the 19th and I wanted to meet up with peeps. So let's do it.
You do realize that if this San Francisco meetup has more than 3 people I will have to, as the kids say, Hate You All.
Great! If you can swing 5 4 more days on the front end, we're having a party on the 14th.
59: Sure, early November, whenever. I'm a pretty free agent these days.
60/61: When is the Bluegrass thing? I might could do something either this weekend or next. A li'l easier next, probably. Let me check with Mr. B.
I googled it, and it seems to be this weekend. I'm pretty flexible since I too am a free agent, so I'm not wedded to a this-weekend meetup.
Okay, well, let me talk to Mr. B. when he gets home this evening and I'll get back to y'all tomorrow sometime.
Katherine: the link is to my email, this time.
So are we doing Baker Street Pub tomorrow? Do we have a time?
w/d - is Baker Street Pub of a "talkable" noise level?
If I'm acceptable as a guest, I'd love to join a meet-up in Chicago. For the forseeable future, I'll be living smack in downtown.
Where is Lincoln Square, actually?
I'm not in Chicago, but of course anyone is welcome to show up. And Lincoln Square is a neighborhood not too far north from the Loop.
I'm not going to complain if this is what we pick, and I couldn't recommend anywhere I'd been, but why go somewhere that's transportation convenient for no one? I mean, the flow and me are like this [holds up intertwined fingers] and I'm happy going with it, I just don't get the appeal of a place on 1st ave. If we were going to go to some arbitrary neighborhood, maybe we could go someplace it would be fun for young monsieur leblanc to see, like the Village or the LES. Just my O.
JAC: I'd say anybody who reads here will be welcome; that's the rule at all meetups I know of concerning this blog.
Lincoln Square proper is at Lincoln Avenue, Western Avenue, and Lawrence. And the area around it. There is a major stop on the Brown Line there, and many interesting places to visit.
76: I agree with Tia. Since LB can't make it, is there a compelling reason to have it in midtown?
i'd prefer midtown, i'm coming from Queens - how about the Algonquin Bar, if we want to show off to M Leblanc? Too pricey/crappy? (I've never been)
I've never been either, but I think it is likely to be quite expensive, and intolerant of us if we're rowdy.
I was knocked up three weeks after my first anniversary.
My older son was ~2-1/2 years into that marriage. The younger one came 9 months after the honeymoon.
77 - Cheers, I'd heard about the neighborhood, but never been there so I didn't know where it was. Really, I just haven't seen any of the places on the Brown line, since I'm always on the Red or Blue (and sometimes Green) to get somewhere. I'll have to check it out sometime.
Did anybody other than B notice that she's going to be appearing on Christopher Lydon's Open Source to discuss sex in Amrican politics?
84:When do you think that will go up?
I think Tia's criteria are good: easily accessible by transit, reasonably priced, quiet enough to not have to shout at each other, but not so fancy that we'll get dirty looks for talking loudly and obnoxiously about sex.
84: Fuck, I'm going out tonight. I'll have to listen to the archived show tomorrow.
17: I'm going to Paris at the end of the month...
84: Don't know. It's usually a day or two later.
I'm only going to HSB on Sunday (Richard Thompson woo), but will probably be in SF on Saturday. Of this weekend. And I'd be up for going next weekend, too.
Here's what else is happening in SF this weekend!

Bill Noertker - contrabass
The reading of philosophy in the mission by me.
Okay, once before I suggested Double Happiness. I think it is quite unpleasant on the weekends, but I was there on a weeknight and it was great. I can't remember whether they have food. That's not Midtown, though. Also not midtown is this bar, and I've never been, but it sounds nice and has food. I realize I'm not being incredibly helpful with all these bars I've never been to, but I'm just trying to do something other than unhelpfully veto things.
Ok, now that we're talking about going somewhere interesting, does convenient to the L train count as convenient? Because Luca Lounge on Ave. B btw. 13th and 14th is very good, though caveat that I've only been on the weekend and only for drinks, not food (not that we need to be eating there this time, either).
Only speaking for myself, I'll go anywhere; I only objected to suffering inconvenience to get to far East Midtown, since I don't think it's really where you want to go on your one night in the city.
I like Double Happiness on the weekdays too, but sometimes the music is really loud.
Yay! Pick something that's fun and interesting! I don't even care where it is, y'all pick something good. I'll be in Midtown all afternoon, so presumably I don't need to spend any more time there.
And as for times, Tia, you can't come until after 9, right? So we could make it a little later... plus in all likelihood I'll wander around for a couple hours after the meeting gets out. There's also the distinct chance that these lawyers may, like, take me out for a drink or something after the meeting's done. Wouldn't surprise me.
83: JAC, one day when you have it free, just ride the Brown line for the hell of it. It's got the best views in the city, IMO--very pretty ride. I like to get on at the loop, ride it around the loop and up to Paulina or so.
And yeah, since we're all meetup-tastic today, we should definitely plan a Chicago meetup soon.
M. Leblanc--I love riding the brown line on the way home from the airport. Get a big doofy grin on my face, even the time it was four degrees out.
If the trip to NYC is job-interview related at all, break a leg.
54, 59: Early November works for me. It might even be autumn by then.
84: Thanks! I only found out for sure around 2 pm, and then I spent the next hour frantically getting a landline and buying a phone. Only to find that of course cordless phones need to be charged before you can use them. So I hope the cell connection was audible. I even worked in the Patriot Act renewal thing at one point, just for Ogged.
Hey, anyone flown recently? Maybe i should read the Kip Hawley thread. I can't keep up with these rules now, last time I flew was two days after they found out the Heathrow plot. From Heathrow.
So liquids? Plastic Bags? What's up.
Last I heard was liquids/gels are allowed in small 3oz type travel sizes, and medicines with a copy of the prescription? But call the airline/airport to make sure?
I read this thread just after making plans to go to a film with a friend. Arg.
AWB, how dare you have a real life???
AWB! I want you to come! Crap. I was thinking about sending out a bat signal to some people, including you, about this. What about Jackmormon?
AWB didn't come to my meetup either.
aw fuck, White Bear, I was thinking of calling you to tell you, and if I had, I would have caught you in time.
Fine, I'll make an effort! I will call Tia after the film.
hm, I just left you a gratuitous message.
I mean, the information about the meetup you may have needed, but the heavy breathing? I guess that was uncalled for.
tThis thread is like the events leading to the climax of Romeo and Juliet.
Well, I guess I might as well just drink that poison. it's just sitting there looking neglected.
B, I thought you did fine, but the other guests were driving me crazy, especially Susan Willis. So I clicked on the link to her book, and the publisher's review started thus:
The Intellectual Atmosphere In American Following the event known as 9/11 was such that opinion deviating from the officially sanctioned narrative of good vs. evil was actively discouraged, the majority of the media toeing President Bush's war-mongering line. Thus it was left largely to European philosophers such as Jean Baudrillard, Paul Virilio. and Slavoj Ž iž ek to think through the international consequences of this era-defining moment. And it all became clear. (Virilio? Really?)
Tat Ž iž ek fellow is no great shakes either.
I have a question for Unfogged as soon as I get off the phone. Major problem. Need help immediately.
AWB, I've heard that eating a group of small, impudent children is a great mood-enhancer..
an eating group of small, impudent children is a great mood-enhancer
I agree with 121. What's going on?
Okay -- should I email someone so it can be put up as an "advise me" or should I just do it here?
You can email me if you want, or you can put it up here, or you can put it up here and I can make a post pointing to it, or whatever--up to you.
Okay, Ben, I'll send you an email.
Looks like I shan't be able to make it tomorrow -- Damn! Sorry to miss you, M. Leblanc. Have fun, all.
Or you can put it up here! The suspense!
Fuck you, Clown (and by that I mean, sorry you can't be there. Next time.)
coming back late (and a little drunk) to the conversation, did we pick a place? if not, can someone make an executive decision here?
I hate you all. No one ever comes here.
That's not true and you know it, Chopper.
134: They never come here either, Chopper. And that is true.
You can't just wait for the meetup to come to you, guys.
Hey, apo, I just applied for a job in North Carolina. So.
Will someone post the location to the main page? I'll still call Tia about it, but I have limited access to the internet during the day.
Yeah, I won't have internet access tomorrow either. And I need to go to bed now so I can actually make my early morning flight. I'll send my phone number to some peeps (Becks already has it) so someone can call or text me and let me know what's up.
Chopper, I told them that Fargo was ready and waiting. But I suppose you want it to be Minneapolis.
Minneapolic is a pretty nice town, but I've already been there.
Happy Birthday Tia! (I want it to be known that I remembered Tia's birthday before she did. She mentioned it in comments saying, "oh crap, I forgot that my birthday is tomorrow," after I had already sent an e-mail to all of the other people on the masthead reminding them.
I'm sure unf in particular was quite excited to hear the news.
That's not true and you know it, Chopper.
Well, B swings through on ocassion, but a "meetup" for her is one with readers from her site, not unfogged.
And Emerson, I know you're outstate, but is Fargo really that much closer for you? Can't you come down 94?
L. moved back to New Orleans. Minneapolitan is local. I thought there was another person (a woman?) from the TC, but either she's quit commenting or I forgot who she was.
It was nothing Tia, and I left unf off the e-mail. I'm just saying that the lack of a birthday thread for you wasn't for want of my trying.
I left unf off the e-mail
What about Bob?
(not really asking, just wanted to say "What about Bob?")
It's okay, BG, I am adequately loved! I have already gotten a twenty dollar movie theater gift certificate from my work, I'm told that I can expect something in the mail from Clementine this morning, three people have emailed and one has called, my coworker is taking me to lunch, and I'm going to have a rockin' party at which I am going to compel people by the power of birthday to dance with me even if they think they're bad at it.
Happy birthday, Tia! Go get hammered!
Anybody going to the meetup have a PayPal account? I'd like to buy Tia a drink.
Can you hook 'em Tia woo?
Are you really just a shadow
Of the girl that we once knew
She is lovely, yes she's sly
For a 47-year-old guy
Who is losing his hair, too.
Can you hook 'em Tia?
I have a paypal account, but use it so rarely that I'm not sure what information you need to send me money. Probably my name, if so, and you actually want to do this, e-mail me. I also don't guarantee that I won't run off to Mexico with that sweet, sweet drink money in my hands.
Chopper, I'm equidistant from Fargo and Minneapolis, so I imagine I could make it down there. It's just the lure of cheap thrills that makes Fargo seem so attractive.
Nobody's getting any drinks if we don't finalize a time and place for this meetup.
Nobody's getting any drinks until everyone eats five big bites of vegetables. As long as you live under this roof, you'll follow Tia's rules. Don't make teh Hero turn this car around!
145: Frowner?
157: Luca Lounge? 7:30?
Standpipe Bridgeplate, you take that out of your mouth right this minute!
w/d, I think all I need is your e-mail address. Your e-mail address is not readily apparent at your blog. I can be reached at geofbrown/@/comcast/./net, but not until I get off work, when I will paypal you the price of a drink if you send me an e-mail with the e-mail address you use for your paypal account.
hey, I just got the prettiest flowers from my coworkers. They are teh nice, and have teh good taste. Gerber daisies, one rose, a lily, some ferns, some other broad leaves--the overall effect is quite jungly. Also, I just got my package from Clementine, and includes, among other things, a cowbell, so now I cannot say that my birthday needs more cowbell.
Sure, let's just call it. Luca Lounge @ 7:30. People can show up late as they free up. I think most of you know my number but I'll email it to those who are coming in case anyone gets lost, can't find us, etc.
It was nothing Tia, and I left unf off the e-mail.
Me too, apparently. Happy birthday, Tia!
162: Flowers bring out the teh in Tia.
Thanks, JM! Yeah, the other guests, I thought, were not saying anything particularly original. "Americans are hung up about sex!" "I blame the patriarchy!" But I think the host got a little tired of me trying to broaden the subject. We'll see if they have me on again.
Happy birthday, Tia!
Chopper, I *tried* to get Emerson to drive down once, but noooo. Next time I'm in town, we'll do the Unfogged thing. May I point out, however, that as you are the guy who actually *lives* in Minneapolis, perhaps you should actually take the lead in organizing a Minneapolis meetup? Hmm?
Yes, dear, but I'm passive-agressive, and it's easier to complain than doing anything about it. Nobody likes me, anyway.
thanks for all the b-day wishes. hey, Chopper, do you have a drink to recommend. I have unsophisticated taste in alcohol. I need my palette expanded.
Have a Manhattan -- they're tasty and good. Probably shouldn't have more than two or so.
And happy birthday -- I'll be sorry to miss the meetup, but the anniversary dinner is non-optional.
Felicitations on your natal day. And, just, you know, because: it's your palate.
She might have been using "palette" metaphorically, slol.
That shows what you know! I'm planning to body paint myself with colorful liquor tonight.
Happy anniversary, LizardBreath!
Chopper -- school Tia's palate with smoked pork products.
She might have been using "palette" metaphorically, slol.
You're just jealous I got that picayune correction in before you did.
Be reckless, LB
That was a wonderful meal, Buck! Hey I know this lovely little bar downtown, why don't we go tie one on?
[Cab ride downtown; they walk in the door of Luna Lounge. Feigning surprise:]
Oh my goodness, Tia! W/d! I never expected to run into you guys here!
I'm passive-agressive. . . . Nobody likes me.
Cause / effect. Also, of course you are: you live in Minneapolis.
178: Drink recommendations for Tia.
Congrats LB. Fort Tryon Park around sunset seemed pretty romantic to me last time I was there, though given changing seasons and work schedules I don't when you guys will be there.
Great. Now I am picturing LB and Buck as Lucy and Desi, and Tia and W/D as Ethel and Fred.
My hair hasn't been red since lawschool, and it's never been curly. Oddly enough, Buck is a Cuban bandleader.
186 -- and I'm almost certain that W/D and Tia bear no resemblance to the Mertz's IRL. Like even less than you and Buck to the Ricardo's.
Tia--I'm afraid I'm hardly a sophisticate when it comes to mixed drinks. I like vodka martinis and vodka tonics with lemon (not lime). Other than that, I drink beer, wine, and assorted straight liquors.
If you want to drink a drink that I would order, have a Knob Creek, straight up, with a water back.
Chops, the only e-mail address you need is the one in my signature.
Cause / effect. Also, of course you are: you live in Minneapolis.
Nice. Although I've always felt that the stadard accusation of passive-agressiveness against midwesterners is a bum rap--we just rely on our conversational partners to pick up on the plainly obvious.
Perhaps this would be a good thread to debate the merits of vodka martinis vs. gin, and of Knob Creek vs. other bourbons vs. scotch. I don't think we've done anything like that before.
W/D. Got it. WIll paypal when I get home, a little after 5:00 Central.
No, let's discuss Armagnac versus grappa--then w-lfs-n can play.
Sigh. I called Tia when I got out of the movie with my friend, but got no answer, so I came home, not knowing where y'all was. Sigh. So sorry to have missed it!
Perhaps this would be a good thread to debate the merits of vodka martinis vs. gin
There's a debate to be had?
By "debate" I meant "make assertions about".
(-- a task to which I think we would be up.)
(and Ben -- where do you stand on the armagnac-grappa question?)
So, CÆ, are we to understand that you couldn't attend the meetup because you had to hang around and comment on Unfogged?
Okay, now I think that Tia is adequately loved. Poort Teofilo didn't get much love at all.
I would have loved to meet Teo, and M. LeBlanc. I'm kinda pissed. Out of town for Teo, and now, uh, stymied by Tia's inability to hear her phone ring a thousand times?
(and Ben -- where do you stand on the armagnac-grappa question?)
I'm not really sure what the question is. Which is better? Is that it? Doesn't seem like a valid question… which should you give me? Grappa; I'm pretty well set, at the moment, for the wine brandy genre of booze at the moment, and I've only had grappa once.
Teo -- No, I couldn't go because my fucking company is making me take a class this month that meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 - 9:15 meaning taking a Wednesday evening away from my family would be (a) unfair to my wife -- since little-girl-putting-to-bed duties are normally mine -- and (b) not pleasurable for me since it would make three evenings in a row of no daughterly interactions. So I miss out on the meetup. OTOH I get to hang around with you guys and make snide remarks.
(Feel free to make a joke about "my fucking company".) Did I mention I resent hugely having to take this class?
Hey Clown, Mr. B. and I are both sick of parenting. Want the pleasure of little-boy-putting-to-bed duties for a night or two? You can stay in the swanky guest suite and hang out by the koi pond once he's soundly asleep.
I sure hope the class is on advanced fucking techniques or something; I wouldn't expect less from a fucking company.
AWB--I wasn't talking about Teo's meetup, but Teo's birthday which was last Friday the 29th.
208: Sounds like you're adapting nicely to the decadence of the Left Coast.
I think I got plenty of love for my birthday (and my meetup), actually.
Your bday was last Friday? Happy bday!
Also, I'll hear no complaints about a lack of love for Teo, who I would have met up with in Albuquerque, had he had the foresight to be there.
I wait patiently for Teofilo to be elected to a representative position in Congress, at which point I'll try to schedule a lunch.
213 - I am having the foresight to be in LA the first weekend of November. Did we confirm a date/location for meeting then (since I believe you've asked me out before)?
We haven't figured anything out yet. We should do so. I am presently too tired to think, however. Email me?
Sure, and there isn't any hurry. But it would also be nice to meet other LA folk as well.
213: Thanks. It was BG's birthday as well.
214: I won't be eligible for another three years, so you'll have to sit tight until the 2010 midterms. Or, you know, this December, when I'll be in DC on my way home for break.
I think a DC meetup is in order. I'd like to make an ass of myself in person.
Hey how was the meetup? Who hooked up with whom? Who failed in his/her attempt to hook up with whom? What embarrassing drunken birthday-admissions did T(itan)ia make? Come on people we want dirt! (You guys didn't talk about me did you? Oh shit, come on, what did she say about me? -- That bitch! Listen, if I were going to divulge confidences I could tell you one or two thinkgs about her, fuckin bitch...)
I think a DC meetup is in order.
The last DC meetup was fun, if a bit of a sausagefest.
The DC meatup was fun, even if for weeks afterward 'postro kept asking me to e-mail him a pic.
But there will be good reason for a DC event very soon. And Stanley, I'm guessing you've heard from our mutual friend, but I'm heading into your nabe this weekend.
Already discussed with WB in chat, but I am not quite as lame as I sound! I was in class when she called, and by the time I got out of class and responded to her she was in Brooklyn. She hadn't seen where I'd said I'd only be free after nine. The lesson to you all is to not count on blog threads to communicate with each other.
AWB, I blame myself. I emailed a bunch of people my phone number, but I forgot you. If I hadn't done so, you would have been able to call me, and I would have told you where we were, which would have been especially nice because I showed up early and some people were late.
Is Profgrrrrl pulling our leg with this story about _gg_d? I don't know her well enough to tell.
But there will be good reason for a DC event very soon.
Oh rilly?
You were missed, AWB.
Everyone who attended got to meet my charming, occasional-lurker ex.
I'm going to be in Oakland for nine days as of late this Saturday night, incidentally.
Come out to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass on Sunday? There's Richard Thompson! (Richard Thompson!)
Sure. Will I have missed Billy Bragg? (Billy Bragg!)
which would have been especially nice because I showed up early and *some people* were late.
I think you managed to amuse yourself pretty good, regardless.
232: Yes. He's playing on Saturday.
233: LIKE WHAT?
Ben, I don't have a cell phone. So we will have to arrange a time and a place to meet at Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. It is big and crowded, so we would be unlikely to spontaneously find each other. (Although you could always follow the frisbees to me.)
What time did you plan on getting there?
"Plan" means to intend to do something, then figure out the steps involved in doing that thing, then commit to doing them.
So, for example, if you wanted to see Richard Thompson at the Rooster Stage, at 4:25pm on Sunday, you would "plan" to get there at that time. I could also "plan" to be there at the same time and that would greatly increase our chances of meeting. If you wanted to hang out with me before or after that, we would arrange that in advance and then do what we said we would do. (I know this is hard, but before cell phones, people did this all the time.) It is a way to optimize your use of your time.
235: OH I am not going to say just yet.
There is an adorable addition to the family . . . revealed!
And I'm pregnant with SCMT's love child.
220: Don't you live in Charlottesville?
Yes, but I'll always drive two hours for a good cock joke or two.
224: I'm heading into your nabe this weekend
Mutual Friend did tell me. How do you feel about beer brats?
