I'm pretty sure he isn't hoping for comments from me.
You know, Ogged, I really don't think Ben needs your condescension.
You might know what he needs, but I know what he wants.
On the east coast, we prefer that you get up with the chickens to do these shows. What have you done for us, lately?
I'm sitting here listening to a CD of Richard Thompson covers (covers by not covers of) when i saw this.
I'll try to remember to listen on Friday, if I'm back from court....
a Richard Thompson cover
Oooh! Oooh! This one?
Afraid not, Becks.
4: Are you calling B a debutante?
Ogged, since you've previously expressed an interest in the music of Charming Hostess, I say to you, and to others in the greater San Francisco compass, that there's a show tonight in the Mission featuring them and the excellent NYC band Barbez. I might even go myself!
And I say to all that the Clive's Original Band song "Scranky Black Farmer" is so addictive that if you hear it once, you'll spend the rest of the day making up verses that fit its meter and melody. While biking home I did nothing but! Eg: "My shirt it is green and my pants they are black / so that I'll withstand a chromatic attack / but if the attack comes with numbers and surds / I'll have no recourse but responding with words". You might say: but ben, that's totally lame. True. But it was fun.
Hey, say hi to Jewlia for me! (You know, under the assumption the security guy tells you to come backstage because the band wants to meet you.)
And I was not two blocks from where they'll be playing just last night. But tonight is just too damn spur-of-the-moment...
Come on, show a little life. It's not for five hours.
That's the problem with being past the debutante stage. You get all matronly and worried about shit like bedtimes.
Charming Hostess was really good even though I don't like the trio material all that much. "Meister der Kultur" in particular rocked. Although ogged was not there, two members of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum were, in civvies, no less. Also, the theremin for Barbez was way too loud the whole show through, and the band live seems to bear little relation to the band on album (like, where'd the singer go?), but hey. Still good.
Only slightly more than 2 hours to go, kids!
