I mean, different in terms of what's on them, not numerically different.
But will they be different colours? And will you match them to our decors?
I totally want a CD! I am terrible about going into the world and finding music, and as it is I have two very different fellows sending me CDs periodically with the intent of infusing my brain with evidence of musical genius in the world. But I feel none has gone so far into that world as w-lfs-n.
Or you could just post the listing, and we could work out which bands you just made up.
I'd like one. But as soon as it hits my mailbox will it turn completely lame? If so, don't bother.
I would like a w-lfs-n CD to complement my NickS CD.
Of course I'd love a CD! Who wouldn't? I assume you are going to be swamped. Should we email you snail mail addresses?
OK, me too. I request free jazz / avante-garde / Pangaiea type stuff.
Yeah, me too. Stuff that the kids are listening to these days.
A CD would be very welcome, if you feel like posting to the UK. But will your soothing dulcet tones introduce the tracks? Why not make a podcast?
I hadn't even considered that Ben wouldn't be DJing the discs! Given his past stated opposition to playlists I wasn't figuring on separate tracks. Though, DJing all these discs would take a lot of time.
i would like one! different and better and made with more love than armsmasher's, though.
I'll cockpunch your CD, catherine.
I would like a CD.
I'm also willing to send people copies of the CDs I've put together.
In fact I've been thinking about wanting to do a new collection at some point and this could be a good excuse.
I think the podcast idea is a great one.
Podcast sounds neat except do you nead a 'pod to listen to that? I've heard the term before but never been quite sure what it signifies.
A downloadable audio file. You could listen to it at your computer just fine.
Well, Ben, I'd love a CD, but I want mine to be the same.
You could do a fundraiser CD for Gary, just as some mysterious but familiar blogger did awesomely a couple of years ago. If you wanted to.
I'm probably not going to make 15 (seems to the be the count?) completely different CDs, sad to say. And, you know, for the most part they won't be for the recipient, in the sense of programmed with the recipient in mind. BUT if my fevered thoughts last night bear fruit, I might have 15 different packaging schemes.
I'm also not making promises as to when they'll actually get out.
M/lls: I'm not going to make this dependent on donating to Gary, because that would cheapen my essentially self-involved motives, but of course persons piping up are free to pretend to themselves that it's in recompense for a donation to Gary.
I want one, assuming they're available to lurkers.
No comments for awhile: are they not working, or is it just that all the commenters are?
I'm probably not going to make 15 (seems to the be the count?) completely different CDs
If more than one person does, I'll even send different CDs to different people.
So much for being a man of your word. Also, I just want people to know that
I'm also not making promises as to when they'll actually get out.
Is literally true; I'm pretty sure you offered to make *me* a CD back when I lived in a different country.
But "I'll even send different CDs to different people" does not imply that he will send each person a distinctly different CD.
29 -- there's a clear distinction between "different" and "completely different". Ben could make CDs that have overlapping content which would be different, but not completely different.
Also, I'm sure The Grammarian would argue that he said he would send different CDs, not CDs with different content. He's just not going to make us share one disc.
Gawd, that would be an excellent Halloween costume: The Grammarian.
No, I meant CDs with different content. Hence comment one (I wasn't talking about numerical distinctness) (although I will also send numerically distinct CDs).
Nevertheless, if I make, say, 5 different CD-contents, and put each CD-content on three different CDs (or more, depending on how many people end up asking), it will still be true that I'm sending different CDs to different people. It just won't be the case that for each person, that person receives a CD whose contents differ from the contents of each other CD.
32 -- he preempted that criticism.
(and subsequently in comment #34)
Gawd, that would be an excellent Halloween costume: The Grammarian.
If you want people to beat you up and steal your candy, sure.
38: "Hot for Teacher" didn't speak to you as it did me.
I want a CD! I want all 5!
Ok, that might be a bit too much to ask. But I'm always looking for new music, which I imagine any cd from w-lfs-n would hold, that is, music that is new to me.
If I could get one too, that'd be fan-super-tastic. I've always kind of wondered what sort of music you listen to, especially since I've never really dug into much international or modern jazz music.
Also, though I know few (if any) here know or have reason to trust my taste, I've been looking for a good excuse to make a mix or two lately. I tend to listen to disgustingly recent music, mostly of the indie rock or bass-driven variety. If anyone wants, I'd be happy to create a couple CDs and distribute them.
Me, JAC! I want some of that indie action. Although it's entirely possible you'll send me something I have already, given what we have already established about our respective musical tastes.
Am I too late? And if not, is it too forward of me to hope that the playlist will be seasonally appropriate? I hate to harsh your muse, you just seemed to be on a roll over at Catherine's place.
I'd like a JAC CD as well.
I'm willing to make a few CDs as well, but will caveat that my CD burner is currently fuxxored. So, if anyone wants a mix of alt rock/classic country/punk/pop/jazz etc., lemme know.
I too would like a CD.
The only complication is that I can't give you my name or address.
So we'll have to work out some sort of complicated hand-off scheme like they do with ransom money in the movies. (Underneath the big oak tree in the park in a brown suitcase left at exactly 10:00pm, beside the green bench just behind the trash recepticle. Unmarked bills only! And if there's any funny business I'll kill the hostage.)
Umm.. so what sort of restrictions would anyone like to see on the mix that I put together. Should it be all recent or a hodge-podge of eras? All groovy dancable stuff? All obscurities or all "what-the-kids-are-listening-to-these-days" or a mix of the two?
Should I make it easily accessible and avoid the more grating areas of my musical taste (noisy pop, rock freakouts, unusual vocal tics, and drum-n-chant antics)?
I will happily provide, I just want to warn that if I avoid the all obscurities route, people who listen to modern indie music will probably know a few of the songs.
If anyone wants a CD from me, just send me an e-mail.
My tastes tend toward the classics of smart quirky pop (with an affection for early David Bowie). FWIW The last of the compilations listed above (Now and Then) was done specifically for the first Unfogged meetup, and is the quirkiest of the bunch.
43: at least one of the CDs will be seasonally appropriate (Emerson's probably won't be). It might even still be the relevant season!
I'm going to say that, depending on how soon I can secure a supply of buttons, things should be shipped NO LATER THAN Thanksgiving. You might think, "damn, that's like a month from now", and you'd be right, but hey, I've got other things going on too, and doing a cd is harder than doing a radio show 'cause there are no voice breaks. (If you want to do it right, anyway.)
At last, away from the Unfogged-blocking firewall at work...if it is not too much trouble, I as well would like a CD. Your fall-themed lists were quite good.
Ok, if no one wants to put any restrictions on my mix CD, I suppose I'll just put something very random or very depressing together.
I had a couple damn good break-up mixes of recent music that could serve well. I'll post one when I get back home so m.leblanc can see if there's too much overlap with her collection.
There's nothing I love more than a mix, and I haven't made one in months...
Since spring I've been haunting a number of mp3 blogs (The Hype Machine is a great aggregator, for any who haven't tried it). As a result my iTunes now has over 9000 songs, some of which I must confess I haven't yet played.
I'm far too lazy to send out discs in the mail, but I'd be happy to post a mix to a file-sharing site like yousendit, which will host a good-sized file for unlimited download for 7 days gratis. Their registration requires only a valid email addres to upload, and no registration is needed to download.
So I'm going to run up an hour or so of Autumn music for in the next couple days. No guarantees anyone but me will like it. Perhaps w-lfs-n &/or some of the other mavens here assembled could do likewise? Personally, I go for clever, pretty music--I can post a link to my mix in this thread or whatever...
I am prepared now to state that two cds are finished.
