Correct plural is "Ann Althice".
please.
AA is on the "life's too short" list, along with Goldberg, Brooks, Instafascist, and a few others.
You could spend every minute of every day documenting how vicious and corrupt and ill-informed and mendacious they are.
And silly and self-centered and egotisical.
but life's too short.
Q: How many performance artists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
A: I dunno, I left before the end.
I'm mostly amused at her odd definition of bargain.
"I'll spend several years insulting you, and then if you win, you can kowtow and pander to me. It's a bargain!"
alt.House kills me. She seems to inhabit a different world than I do, one in which words mean that I otherwise recognize mean something different than they do to me, and her behaviors are characterized in ways that I cannot fathom. I have no idea what to make of her.
I have no idea what to make of her.
I've settled on "an object of unremitting mockery".
That's it, Democratic Party: No tight sweaters! Also, no highwaters! I better not see you showing any skin between your socks and pants!
Why, if we win, can't we declare a bush-style mandate and ignore their sorry asses for the next term?
Because we are better people than they are?
We can ignore her ass. Does anyone think people like her are actually voting in ways that shift the legislature towards the Democrats? Fuck her.
We can ignore her ass... Fuck her.
Yes, fuck her, but ignore her ass. Nothing too kinky. Sounds like a good plan.
The nyt article states that moderate= bill clinton. And althouse has shown herself to to be an insanly anti- bill clinton. Althouse isn't a moderate democrat.
How many performance artists does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
As many as will fit in the lightbulb, I guess--they'll screw anywhere.
14 is only acceptable because she's older than 29.
17: If you're under 30, it is unacceptable not to take it up the butt.
Ann Althouse is, as far as I can tell, anti-most-things. She's pro-reality tv and mean jokes. That's all I'm coming up with.
Once she got mad at some liberal person who insulted her in a way that she considered sexist and called out for feminists to speak out to protect her. This while she consistently disses and ridicules feminists.
Now she is doing the same thing with the Democratic Party.
It's beyond weird. In fact it seems to be a condition of some kind - expecting help and support from the very people you denigrate, ridicule and disrespect.
I don't read much Althouse so I don't recognize her prose that well, but this pseudonymous comment seems to flow from the same muse as the post that it's sticking up for. Am I off base, Alt-watchers?
I'm not seeing it, but your link doesn't go to a particular comment.
18: I'm glad I was over 30 when that law was enacted.
The server error kitty, on the other hand, is under 30 and clearly looks worried.
21 refers to the comment by 'Filthy McNasty.'
Then I don't think so. I'm pretty sure I've seen FMcN around in non-Althouse contexts, and it's really too short to do much with the writing style.
I've settled on "an object of unremitting mockery".
Totally. Though I think my favorites are the off the meds tit shakers like Katherine Harris and that Atlas Shrugs chick.
That's all I'm coming up with.
I'm pretty sure she's pro-Ann Althouse.
28.--True enough.
I'm not seeing Filthy McN as an Althouse sockpuppet, neil. For one thing, I don't think she's quite the type to denounce things as "un-American," and for another, I've seen that handle popping up at Cole's place for at least a couple of months. The "you're arguing dishonestly" shit is pure Althouse, however.
If Ann Althouse, Glenn Reynolds, and an orchid were on one track and the Powerline guys were on the other, could you flip the switch just after the front wheels of the trolley passed over it and maybe get the thing to swing sideways and take them all out? Would you feel sad about the orchid?
This is my favorite Althouse remark so far: "Plus, it bothers me that the hand isn't wearing pants ..."
30 borders on fantasizing about killing your political opponents. I try to be a consistent opponent of such rhetoric, though I admit that I sometimes forget. It's also obviously tricky to decide whether or not a joke counts as such rhetoric, and I think DaveL is on the safe-side of my imaginary line. Further, I'm probably being inconsistent by not caring at all that ass-fucking jokes are being made about my political opponents. Very well then.
32: OK, let's make it the Trolley of Mockery. Being struck by it causes total strangers to laugh and point whenever you show your face.
I forgot how much fun hypotheticals can be.
32: I'm not clear if you're saying it's wrong to fantasize about killing one's political opponents or that it's wrong to fantasize about the painful deaths, by means including assassination by someone else, of one's political opponents. Or what of painful deaths, no human hand involved?
In the interest of precision, we were joking about not ass-fucking Ann Althouse. Except that for me, at least, that really isn't a joke. Not at all interested.
There are exceptions to this, the exceptions basically involve the possibilities of politics having broken down and having decided that we're moving to (more or less) organized violence. Or being at certain places on a continuum towards that point, I don't have a well worked out theory.
WD, I think you're right about needing to police that line. I don't really think I crossed it--really just trying to play with the juxtaposition of the two threads--but it's a legitimate thing to worry about.
