Re: White-haired Women In Suits

That kinda reminds me of how it felt to go to a liberal church and see women officiating. A small thing, but hugely affecting when you're not used to it.

Yeah, I had the same experience at the March for Women's Lives. An entire city full of feminist women of all ages. I must say I have never felt so safe, for myself or for PK, as I did there.

It was the women running things that hit me. It's not 100% of the time, but pretty darn often in a roomful of litigators, the older people in charge are all men. If there are women, they're probably younger, and probably subordinate. This was an awfully pleasant contrast.

I especially like talking sports in only-women groups. Trace and Rox and I will actually diagram plays, and for reasons I would be embarassed to think through, I don't like to do that or ask every last follow-through question with men around.

I think my only actual "talking to a celebrity" experience was once having to tell Olivia De Haviland that her credit card was rejected. This was in the late 80s, and in Austin, before non-local celebrities started hanging out here, so I didn't even recognize her until I looked at the name on the card. But it was her all right. Her son ended up paying for the meal.
