Let's start it off with Fuck the Greens.
Slackers. Come and enjoy Apo's crispy new thread.
I actually considered Green for Insurance Commissioner for a minute. I'm glad I didn't do it, though, just on irrational general principles.
James Carville should star in a remake of Nosferatu.
Allen's on CNN now. Is he about to concede?????
George Allen is thanking a lot of people. And God.
I would have voted Green for motherfucking Cook County Board President. I hate motherfucking Todd Stroger. And he won.
I demand that Robust keep posting until he can't fucking see. I also demand that we make fun of Ann Althouse's livebloggint the CNN thing.
Or is he about to ask for a recount?????
Huh, b/c I'm on the other line with God right now, and he's saying he's on my side. Two-timing bastard.
I voted green for land commissioner of something like that. Don't regret it. Everything other vote was Democrat, straight down the line.
mmm....gin! w00t!
I voted for the Green guy in the congressional race...it didn't do any harm, it's not even listed here. I didn't vote for him when he ran for mayor last year, though.
What is happening on CNN the television? My cable doesn't mothershitting work.
Ogged, could you put another question mark in that comment? I'm not sure I get the mood.
Allen says they're still counting, and we won't know tomorrow. He's also an idiot.
Earlier, I went to the gym, so I could watch television while on the elliptical thingy. That's bad.
Black Race Likely Headed For Recount
11: Not quite, but he knows it'll be automatic, so he's signaling that he'll challenge. Didn't look very defiant, though.
Jesus christ, you'd think people would have learned not to elect an illiterate child after watching GWB for six years.
Nice non-concession by Macaca. And nice subtle threats about recount.
Alright, I'm starting to get a little Becks-style. I reiterate my hatred for 3rd party fuckers.
Christ, it's not even 1 am in VA. Pansy.
Please, can we hit Allen hard with ferocious lawyers? Whatever happened to the vote suppression thing anyway?
Ezra says that Allen looked drunk. I didn't see it.
Let me amend- you'd think people would have learned not to elect an illiterate child alcoholic after watching GWB for six years.
Dude, maybe we take this after all.
Someone on MSNBC just said that the Virginia SoS doesn't have Webb ahead and somebody probably transposed a number...
I voted Rainbow Green for something; I don't remember what. I think that it might have been Secretary of State. Bonifaz lost in the primary, and Galvin has done stuff taht seems to be in violation of the Voting Rights Act. I had to protest.
I don't feel the same about the Mass Rainbow Green party as I do about Greens in general, bnecause they never run candidates for Federal office.
CNN senate page
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/senate/
Schneider asked on the other thread for my NM-1 source. NM SoS. Sandoval and Valencia Counties haven't reported yet (maybe not Santa Fe either), but it's definitely unexpectedly close.
Nice. I mean, where are you getting your McCaskill numbers?
I still have CNN showing Talent up by 48000.
CNN says
McCaskill 754,879 48% 74% of precincts reporting
Talent 753,698 48%
Time to switch to whisky. In honnor of Mark Foley, I'll have the Glenfiddich Solera Reserve. 15 years old and soooo smooth.
thank you, teo. KOB
http://www.kobtv.com/snapshotskob/election/race1001.htm
is reporting
Patricia Madrid (D)86,985 51
%Heather Wilson, incumbent (R)85,126 49%
hich doesn't surprise me. I wouldn't be surprised if Madrid lost. Lousy campaign, bad candidate
Huh. On the full MO page it shows Talent ahead, on the Senate races page it shows McCaskill barely ahead. WTF.
YES.
http://www.prospect.org/weblog/2006/11/post_1963.html#014414
28,29: Where are you getting that? CNN.com has Talent ahead.
Bob Shrum: "Race was a handicap for Harold Ford"
Can we please get rid of that guy?
Pansy.
HEY NOW us pansies are fucking GOOD at the late night hour it's what we DO and no I have no idea what that means. Also, Frank Luntz just said on TEH CNNZ that there's "a blue Virginia and a red Virginia" and I honest to fucking gods think he's afraid that after tomorrow he's gonna be back to hawking counterfeit "mint" Hellboy figurines at DragonCon or some shit.
You have no idea how fucking lucky I am that Firefox 2.0 has a spellchecker you bitches.
Pelosi is really awful on TV, but fuck it, she's smart as a goddamn whip and she's good at the discipline thing like bitchphd or whoever said, and she can get somebody to look cute on camera while she gets the real work done and I can't fucking wait for it.
Huh. You're getting more recent numbers.
Fuck. That Senate page that briefly showed McCaskill ahead now shows Talent ahead again.
FUCK.
Talent now shown up by 48k on CNN, damnit!
Robust might be late to work tomorrow.
43: That may include Sandoval and Valencia; I wouldn't be surprised if the SoS site is behind.
Me: "Did you just say you thought Allen looked drunk?"
Rah: *vigorous nodding* "But maybe he's just one of those Southerners who slurs all his s's..."
Dude, everything and everyone looks drunk right now.
Seriously, how did it go from McCaskill up by 1K to Talent up by 48? Shit shit shit.
Robust, please keep posting until you pass out.
Some smug bitch on my 3rd rate cable channel keeps saying that "they're not making the call yet, but I will tell you that McCaskill didn't do too well in exit polling..."
Fox news dudes spinning that this might be a sign to "step up" the war on terror, lest we "lose our civilization."
[vomits a bit in mouth]
Shit, I think Crappy Cable Network is rebroadcasting their 12-12:30 show, which is why I'm pissed at smug bitch again. I need to go to sleep soon.
I second 56. Set up a donations button and we'll pay for the booze.
My wife showed me a CNN.com page that showed McCaskill ahead, and then refreshed, and Talent was up 3%. Someone hates me.
53: Right. CD-1 has all of Torrance county, too, as well as those small bits of Sandoval and Valencia.
But now we're at
Patricia Madrid (D)87,506 50%
Heather Wilson, incumbent (R)86,179 50%
I think I heard that there were about 5k absentee ballots that wouldn't scan, and were being hand counted in Bernalillo County. This could be close.
My wife showed me a CNN.com page that showed McCaskill ahead, and then refreshed, and Talent was up 3%.
Saw that too.
Andrea Mitchell is opining on the "awful moment" at Hillary's victory speech when Bill was standing in the background. Tweety is going on about "hubris" and the democrats. Oy
5k absentee ballots that wouldn't scan
Like the blues, which also don't scan.
John Cole's gonna have an abortion, it seems.
SP, try out TVUPlayer if you have fast Internet. I've been watching MSNBC on it all night.
From a comment on Saiselgy's "Fuck you GG Parker" post.
Maynard: Allow me to disagree. Yes, ed, mitch, and mk should go fuck themselves with G. G. Parker's rusty poker once he's done with it, (can they wipe it off? No.)
Heh.
64: Torrance County was the first to report (in the state, I think, but definitely in the district). It's also tiny. Luckily, the Sandoval portion of the district doesn't include Rio Rancho; it's just the part from Bernalillo east, which is pretty Dem-friendly.
This no mandate for liberalism, this is no mandate to raise taxes , . . .
Bucxhanan blathers on, and Scarborough is saying the Dems didn't win ,the Repubs lost.
Right. . . .
When will Olbermann go off on rthem? Where is Keith>?
Tester's lead has closed a little, but still looking very cool.
Those Montanans need to hurry up.
Ok, off to bed. I wonder how long the Virginia recount will take. I hope there's no violence.
I hope there's no violence.
Hope you've all stocked up on ammo.
Jeez, ogged, you go to bed early.
Tester up[ 18k !
Clair up[ 14k!
so says tweety, so drink up Shriners!
Woot! NY-19 goes Dem. Bye sue. NY house delegation- 23 dem, 6 rep.
Ans now McCaskill with 80% of precincts in.
MCCASKILL IS UP FOR FUCKING REAL 14K VOTES!
CNN has McCaskill up again... 813003 to 799007, with 80% reporting. Eeek
AZ's gay-marriage-is-evil proposition is losing! 94% of precincts reporting. Would this be the first time one of those failed?
http://www.azsos.gov/results/2006/general/BM107.htm
Does TVU work on Mac? I have it on my PC at work but I'm mac at home.
Shit. I meant TVUPlayer with the correct link.
MN-01: Gutknecht goes down! I had an editorial published in the paper attacking that fucker. Woohoo!
71: Right. it's those hippies in the hills of Placitas; But with only 388 of 465 precincts reporting, and Bernailillo county having 441 precincts, if I recall correctly, there must be some Bernalillo County precincts missing.
Easiest way to jump around results is to go to www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2006/pages/results/states/XX where XX is the two letter code for the state you want to see.
Tweety compares Fairfax Co. to "Dick Daley days." So livberal
Okay, now McCaskill's really up in MO. ??? Or will this one disappear too?
Finally, my vote is counted! MSNBC sayus the KC vbote is what has [pushed Claire ahead.
Well, McCaskill's lead may disappear (only 80% of precincts) but it's real for now.
Everyone on TV is speaking nonsense.
We're only down 653 votes in WY-AL house race, 98% reporting. ID is still early.
Oh, now it's KC has the Pendergast machine from Tweety! God, can he just go to the White house and blow Karl and get it over with! !?
Any reliable numbers on the Dems' expected House margin? That's good fucking news right there.
Yeah, they called it for the Governator pretty much as soon as the polls closed. Big surprise.
Webb just said "we won" (among other things).
"When are the Democrats going to realize thsat people like movie stars?"
Tweety. Of course, when stars do spealk ourt on "liberal" issues, they are decried by tweety et al fgor doing so.
boy, typing is fuyn!
88: 424, with 423 reporting. I don't think that includes absentees.
At least it's nice to hear a different accent for the first time all night.
The nycers are goiung home. Too late to wait up anf it doesn't look like joey d will be losing his pants anyways. Maybe a senate tie?
What the hell is wrong with MN? Still only 76% reporting, Dem Hatch is down 7000 votes.
The nycers are goiung home. Too late to wait up anf it doesn't look like joey d will be losing his pants anyways. Maybe a senate tie?
98: In an ass-kicking, no less.
84: However, you might try this to get CNN's coverage, anyway.
Pombo and Doolittle ahead? What's up with that, California?
jesus i don't even under stand how h alf of people still vote this way. i mean i'm glad its a good nit ebut still, 49% of people think allen is a good iea.
99:arounf 35+
Pelosi may be ms discipline, but she is not going to control those old 60s warriors in committee chairs.
Prepare to watch a war.
McC lead widened a smidge as we get to 81% of precincts.
Left in Missouri...
A bunch of smallish counties
Half of Jefferson County, which went for McCaskill
15% of Jackson County (AKA Kansas City), fairly strongly McCaskill
Half of St. Louis County, the largest county in the state and fairly strongly McCaskill.
I don't know Missouri geography well enough to know if there's a ton of Talent votes still to come, but at least a fair percentage of the remaining votes seem to be from largely Democratic areas.
MSNBC says Webb claimed victory, but they didn't carry it. Oops.
OK, so Chris Matthews was just seeing video of Hillary and Bill on stage wherever they are and said the clapping "is Chinese or something." Fuck I know I'm drunk but Jesus what on earth does that even mean?
Webb looks really happy on TV right now I'd just like to say.
If somebody could come up with a video link for Santorum's concession speech I'd love them forever. I want to gather up the tears of his spawn in an eyedropper and mix them with my cocktail PLZKTHX
I ain't payin no $2.95 for Wolf's scratchy beard.
Did webb win?? I so want to win va, prefereablu without my absentee vote being counted.
Webb is ahead by 2K votes, and is claiming victory, with 99% of precincts reporting ms. becks.
Webb's speech was a soft declaration of a victory. He did say something like, "The votes are in and we won," but only after a bunch of stuff about respecting the process. Still: 30,000+ votes from Fairfax Co. yet-to-be-counted. w00t!
Santorum's concession was unfortunately classy. Why is Bush's chief lawyer from 2000 telling us about recounts?
117: It was a joyful speech. He asked the audience to give a round of applause for Casey and nobody even booed.
115 -- CNN doesn't have any figures for Clay County. Just north of KC. Bedrooms, farms, and a lot of Jesse James stuff.
MT at 47% reporting and Tester keeps an 8-point lead. Woot.
Did Chris Matthews just sincerely say that he doesn't know what time zone Montana is in?
Ghu, but Tweety is riding this "why does it take so long to get the votes counted" thing like Foley on a page. HJe's sure working hard to plant the Repub meme for tomorrow.
how many people have voted, nationwide? Any estimates yet?
Clay county is also part of the KC metro, so some semi-urban voters, Charley
NM-01 in an exact tie with 93% reporting?
111: AOTW, CNN has McNerny ahead.
The thing is, whichever way these tight races go, the fact that R incumbents in places like Virginia and fucking Stockton, CA are that close to losing their seats is a miracle. Pombo's district was created to be a safe R district in a very R part of the state. He should have had it locked, and he doesn't.
126: They can't fit everything on that teleprompter.
you'd think they realize it has something to do with underfunding urban precidntes.
104: that's odd, but that's what the SoS says. My recollection was that there were 140k registered Dems in Bernalillo County, 120k registered Republicans, and 70k Decline to State - so a total vote of 110k seems rather low. But you are probably right about missing the absentees, which I think I heard were another 20k. Or, most likely, it's another case of my faulty memory
KOB is now claiming 92% of precincts:
Patricia Madrid (D) 94,213 50%
Heather Wilson, incumbent (R) 93,422 50%
that's tight.
I wonder if anything else interesting is going to happen tonight, or if I should just go to bed.
133 -- I still remember in 2004 when there were preoblems in St. Louia with machines in some p[recincts, and Kit (Happy Hour) Bond came on to decry this blatant vote fixing with all the outrage of a man pullewed forcilby from the Senate perpetual martini fouuntain.
I've switched from liquor to pizza and ice water at this point, so I expect the drunk to lessen rather than increase.
Webb looked happy, but Ford looks like he's at a funeral. He sounds like he's still campaigning, though.
Heard the very end of Santorum's speech on the BBC on the way home, earlier, and his whole "a fight that doesn't end here" thing might as well have had a sign language interpreter pointing to a billboard that reads PREZ IN '08 and I just can't fucking wait.
135 -- Sorry to hear that both can't be true
Leach seems to be trailing, which is kind of surprising.
Yeah, Clay has some KC folks, but also a pretty red-state feel to it. That said, the first 'who would jesus bomb' bumpersticker I ever saw was in downtown Liberty.
Harold Ford, Jr. wrote the Book of Ephesians?
Charley, you local? I'm in Hyde Park myself.,
I just have to say that the drunk commenters are making me giggle like . . . well, like a girl. "Like Foley on a page" and mixing the tears of Santorum's spawn with a cocktail and "I want Chris Mathews to eat my ass on national television" and getting a chub for Speaker Pelosi and "where's the fetus?"--hehehehehehe.
The SENATE.GOP.2006 contract on tradesports is in total freefall. 15 as of right now.
Ghu, but Tweety is riding this "why does it take so long to get the votes counted" thing like Foley on a page.
You're on a roll tonight.
Watching Ford's concession speech. Damn. I hated Allen, but remember Webb from Reagan era, so not completely warm on the guy. And the Repubs may choose to uglify the results with a contest in Va.
But I really liked Ford.
I rEAALY like harEing Ford talk i'd totally vote for him even if he is a church boy purde.
142: Word, I nearly lost it over 'got a chub'.
134: I'm pretty sure the SoS numbers are behind; they haven't budged in hours, and CNN has about 170K votes total, which sounds more reasonable. That may include absentees.
A couple more precincts in VA came in- Webb now leads by 1524 with 13 precincts to report.
Ford's concession speech was better than his campaign.
Dammit, he might've won too, but for the anti-gay amendment. Fucking 81%. Fuck.
I also liked Ford's voice. Does he talk like that on the campaign trail or does he affect a whiter, more Southern accent?
Murtha's on with Matthews and swinging with a hammer. I love it.
NM-01 in an exact tie with 93% reporting?
The whole state's balanced on a knife's edge. It went for Gore by less than 400 votes.
153 -- "from whence"? You with the Department of Redundancy Department or someting?
Matthews can add two-digit numbers. Without a calculator. He just did the math.
CNN has McCaskill up buy 17k with 82% in. Woo hoo!
And the Stem Cell initiative might win, too.
Watching Murtha kick ass, threaten, blame. He got swift-boated and he ain't forgivin. Will he be Armed Services Chairman? This is gonna get ugly early.
Let Bush extend his bipartisan hand tomorrow and let Pelosi bite a finger or two. Fuck it. Let's have a year of hell. Destroy all monsters.
My favorite Matthews moment: "Why is Fairfax County sitting on these votes? Is this a power play!?"
I have no idea what he could possibly have meant by this.
Now 82% in MO, McCaskill's got a lead of 17K. Woot.
150: I'm believing KOB, with 187,600 votes, 92%.
I'm guessing they will end up carefully counting the unscannable absentees, and arguing about every provisional ballot. I predict lawyers and TV cameras on the steps of the 2d Judicial District courthouse. I predict John Wertheim waxing pompous.
"Pompous" is the name of his hobby horse.
You guys, we are currently ahead in all three Senate races.
Ford was rhotisising which sounds pretty southern.
Murtha says he's gonna be Majority Leader.
FWIW, my Nashville s-i-l says that the lines in Nashville were LOOOONG at poll closing time and she thinks it's too early to call for Corker.
Fairfax County is great for Webb.
Jesus, we might get the Senate. Fuck.
I have no idea what he could possibly have meant by this.
They'll auction them to the highest bidding candidate in exchange for transportation funding. Makes sense to me.
168: Yes, but I'm wondering if there are military pro-Allen voters in there, too.
I'm feeling really glad right now that all the Libertarians in MO didn't vote Republican. Occasionally, the third party thing doesn't totally fuck us over.
I'm in Nashville and there were still people in line at a local polling station at 11:00pm. It's not going to be enough, but it's still encouraging.
Tweety was on a plane with Jin Ryun recently, what a great guy, therefore he should have won.
From a Californian born and raised in the Fighting 8th:
"San Francisco values" THIS, bitches!
Booyah!
If we get the Senate (and necessarily Webb), the Republicans are going to fight like hyenas over voting irregularity in VA.
CNN reporting that Delay's district went Dem, too.
Tester's lead only 4 points now. Let's hope it doesn't close too much more.
158: The whole state's balanced on a knife's edge. It went for Gore by less than 400 votes.
Yeah, but Bernalillo County, which makes up most of NM CD-01, went for Kerry by 10k, if memory serves. Madrid should be doing a whole lot better than 50% here. That result is testimony to poor organization, poor party operations, poor GOTV, and a poor candidate.
Chris matthew is choking up at EVERY republican tha loses.
Look, it's early, but Bush is soggy toast. Ain't gonna be no Repub Senators fighting for him for the next two years, he can only hurt them now. They will love to see him take the blame for EVERYTHING.
So kick him, stomp him, humiliate and make him grovel. Gilliard says Bush won't survive it.
Bish has no friends and allies anymore. He is MEAT.
So I guess those VA numbers aren't moving any more tonight.
Tester is looking good in Yellowstone and Cascade, both of which are the places the thing will be won. With plenty of votes still to be counted in Silver Bow. And Glacier, both of which ought to be very good for our side.
Geez, Tester won in Park county!
Bush has Jeebus, and Dick and Rummy and Condi, that's all he needs. And, of course, Karl.
Bush to speak at 1pm (EST) tomorrow. What will he say?
Totally true. Republicans are going to be figuring out who the 2008 power center is and what they supprot.
JPod at The Corner thinks Webb's going to win, given 33K votes left to count in some district.
Yeah, I'm done. Remaining precincts are some cave on an island somewhere.
I'm going to go to sleep and hope that both McCaskill and Tester have retained their leads when I get up. Good night, all.
That result is testimony to poor organization, poor party operations, poor GOTV, and a poor candidate.
Perhaps, but this always happens, no matter who they run (granted, Richard Romero twice was a bad idea). Heather's popular, and unseating her is no mean feat.
details on webb:
up by 1524
by extrapolating the current results, I estimate about 15000 votes still to come in from 13 precincts, should increase his lead by about 1900.
of course this is not including the absentee ballots, which are the source of the 30000+ votes to come from fairfax county, right?
OK, I'm going to bed ow. But if I have it correctlly, iwe are currently up in VA MO and MT, and if we actually win those, we take the sENTE? Fucking A!
John King, "You just saw President John McCain."
Whisky is gone, and I have to work in the morning. It's been a pleasure sharing this wonderful night with y'all. Go Webb! Go Claire! Go Tester!
No prisoners, eat the wounded! (I decide who's wounded)
Holy shit again. Dems currently at 24 pickups in the House, and not a single R pickup anywhere.
Claire up 21k with 85% in. Gillespie is talking about working together. I assume on a chain gang, somewhere, with Duke and Jack asnd Tom and Dick and Rummy and Condi and all the rest.
g'night, I mean it this time
Matthews bullied Ed Gillespie into spinning the results as good for the county. He's pretty good at that, I relished it earlier when Frist was on and Tweety wouldn't let him talk about anything except the racist attack ad on Ford.
Dems currently at 24 pickups in the House, and not a single R pickup anywhere.
Yep, so far the GOP hasn't picked up a single seat in either house. Amazing.
ok, if the 30000 uncounted ballots are not absentee ballots, that would seem to make things better for webb...
Bush to speak at 1pm (EST) tomorrow. What will he say?
I'm having way too much fun imagining this.
"We have a PROCESS. And the people ENGAGED in that PROCESS, and that's a GOOD thing." He'll say that with his lips set so thin and tight he looks like he's squeezing one out behind the podium. He always looks like he wants to bang his pacifier against the tray when he doesn't get what he wants. I can't wait.
If somebody could come up with a video link for Santorum's concession speech I'd love them forever.
I saw it and it was a little anticlimatctic. Aside from some children's tears--which I didn't see--it was strictly by the book. And, speaking of which, I never saw Katherine Harris' concession speech. I was really hping for a totally coked-out unhinged rant of some kind. Eh. Anyway, my evening was much, much better than I expected, if not as good as I wanted. But no one ever gets everything they want.
I think I've gotten a contact buzz from reading Robert McManly Pants' comments.
Fuck it, I am breaking out the bottle of Jack Daniels. First drink in twenty years. Just one will be ok.
He always looks like he wants to bang his pacifier against the tray when he doesn't get what he wants.
I say this as a matter of conjecture, obviously.
Damn, I'm climbing down off this buzz in an awful hurry. Maybe it's the Skittles giving me a boost.
209: Insofar as one can intervene over the internet, that sounds like a bad idea.
You know what's especially gratifying? We're ahead despite the vote suppression.
I propose that comrade McManus be named commissar of Green voter re-education.
I like Chris matthew. But i also hate him.
If some of the VA absentee ballots are from naval bases, you would think Mr. Navy Cross Secretary of the Navy would be doing ok. I'm off to bed. Good night.
I don't envy the closed-captioning people. Katie Couric just now, backing off 2008 speculation:
LETS NOT GET A HEAD OF OURSMRLKSZ
I suspect Bob's naked sprint down I-35 is going to be lead story on the local news tomorrow.
Yeah, seriously Bob. Not a good idea.
212:If it was a bag of sinse, it would be scarey. I always hated alcohol.
Geez, tastes terrible.
SP went to bed too early, 3 more precincts came back in VA and Webb now leads by 4750.
But the courts will have the last word.
webb extends lead to 4745, ballots from richmond city and fairfax county added. (perhaps this is the effect of the uncounted 30000 fairfax ballots?)
still about 12000 votes left to be counted, webb should increase his lead by another 900 or so.
176: You think? Nashville and Memphis?
I second 212.
Soggy meat toast?
Bush tomorrow: In light of the new hostilities with Iran and North Korea simultaneously, I am dissolving Congress.
223: My understanding (wrong though it be) is that the Fairfax Co. votes will be counted tomorrow, because Virginians all around me are going to sleep. Woe. But also, for the moment: joy!
I don't see how provisional ballots will do anything but increase webb' slead
It's easy to imagine all kinds of Machiavellian outcomes, but Bush is still an ordinary human being: tomorrow, he's going to be incredibly depressed. With any luck, he'll mope for the next two years.
224: I'd be happy to be wrong. But I'd be really, really surprised.
224:It is just a drink folks. All those Xmas gifts with matching tumblers going to waste. Not as if I was on a bunch of contraindicateds or has a bad heart of high BP or anything.
Taste is starting to get better. I may embarrass myself by saying somethin untoward or over friendly.
The people on NPR are functionally horked. Jerry Brown! But not the Jerry Brown. In fact, not Jerry Brown at all. Charlie Brown! No, sorry, Jerry Brown.
193: Perhaps, but this always happens, no matter who they run ...
True, no matter which stupid, corrupt democrat they run, the clean smart likeable republican wins. Phil Maloof?? Stupid and corrupt. Didn't Eric Serna run against her, too? Also stupid and corrupt. Romero? Perhaps just not terribly bright, but loyal to Richardson and the old time party folks, as were all of 'em.
Of course, John Wertheim and Matt Farrauto are stupid, too, and may well be corrupt. Lots of nasty rumors about whose bedmate was getting the no-work lucrative contract from the party.
So are absentee ballots counted in the current totals out of Virginia? I sure hope so. There's still the provisional ballots out there and if, as seems likely, Republicans set things up to challenge likely Democratic voters (read: minorities) then it seems that those are likely to be skewed Democratic by a fair degree.
Sure, but you run with the party you've got. At least people aren't voting Green anymore.
webb now up 7815 due to votes in arlington county.
my estimates are way off, it seems because virginia precincts are of widely varying sizes, and the ones that come in late are the biggest ones. anyway, of the 9 precincts left, 5 are in pro-allen areas and 4 are in pro-webb areas, including two from the city of richmond (72% for webb).
with that in mind, plus the extra ballots to be counted tomorrow, webb's lead looks good for now. on absentee ballots, I have no idea.
off to bed! fwiw, CNN has the parts of fairfax that are reporting as going 57% dem; I'd expect this to hold, more or less, across the extra ballots (assuming they're still uncounted -- I didn't see coverage of it on TV). It's not really a large or varied enough county to have big variations across precincts.
I don't see how provisional ballots will do anything but increase webb' slead
I'm not sure what kind of ballots they are. I was wondering whether they might be absentee, which might include a disproportionate number of military folks (who might break slightly less for Allen than a normal Repub., given Webb's Navy experience, but still more for Allen, I think). Anyone got info on what kind of ballots they are?
CA-11 is still too close to call. 51%-49% in favor of McNerney with 34% reporting.
Also, STFU, Chris Matthews.
Wow, Dick Mountjoy with more votes than Angelides. What a joke.
MSNBC calls for McCaskill. Two to go...
A lot of Virginia absentees are going to be military guys and gals, who are none too pleased with the Republicans these days....
The Senate is a weird place. With the likes of Lieberman and Nelson, Stevens will not be replaced by a liberal wet-dream, no matter the count. We are going to get at best a right-centrist, unless Bush wants to play games and motivate the base in '08.
Remember, even frigging Finegold thinks about the Prez perogative.
Roe endure as a hollowshell, but the fight for women's freedom is near day one again. Like gay rights, has to be state-by-state.
Holy fuck, surely I didn't outlast all of you and I'm (sort of) sober now...
Damn. Time to play some Warcraft.
NM SoS site finally updated. Now seems to be in line with CNN etc.
Isn't webb basically a rupublican, but anti-IraqWar? that was his big issue.
238: Anyone got info on what kind of ballots they are?
I think that provisional ballots are defined as those where the would-be voter's standing to vote has been challenged. As I said above, I'm betting this skews Democratic. I don't think there's any word on how many provisional ballots there are out there.
243: A lot of Virginia absentees are going to be military guys and gals, who are none too pleased with the Republicans these days....
A lot of folks in the military aren't too happy with the Republicans these days and Webb is a vet, but even taking those into account, I'd bet that the military vote skews Republican there.
I was thinking of staying up late and fuck how tired I'll be tomorrow, actuallly.
Holy fuck, surely I didn't outlast all of you and I'm (sort of) sober now...
Yeah, some of us have to work these ungodly hours.
243: B, I really really hope that's true, but the military folks (and relatives thereof) I know are still quite pro-Bush. Certainly, north of here in Fairfax, closer to DC, it might be more long-term military folks who are likelier to vote Webb.
Regardless, I am optimistic.
(On preview, the pwnage, the pwnage.)
Isn't Webb basically a [vote for Harry Reid for majority leader]?
Yes.
Yeah, Webb's pretty conservative, but it doesn't matter.
Jerry McNerney up a shade under 3000 votes, 43.9% reporting.
Jim Beam beating Old Thumper 5-2.
The military guys I know are anti-Bush. We'll see if your friends or mine win the day.
I'm not saing anyting about WEbbs' liberality, just that military shoudl be breaking much more toward him than usual.
Sometimes this time zone thing works out.
It's kind of nice for the progression to be from pessimism to optimism for a change.
Stanley lives in Virginia, you know.
I just got more ice.
House is pushing toward a 40 seat shift, which is a magic number for punditry and history. Billmon says Republicans flipped nothing, which may be an all-time record. Beyerstein is at Allen headquarters, and they have lost, lost, lost.
Racist motherfucking phony sumbitch, he was a stain on America.
No matter how conservative, Webb stopped George Allen from being our next President.
Webb's lead just jumped to 12,000!
they are still counting the extra 4000 bogus votes, but it is about 8000.
260: My personal military friends are vehemently anti-Bush, but the military-type families I encounter on a day-to-day basis break for Bush (and likewise, Allen). I hope your and my friends win.
Why are they saying noone would pay for Allen's recount costs since it would fucking decide the senate?
271: Because there are other Republicans who would also like to be President who might quietly decide to endure 2 years being in the minority in order to let their freaky-ass potential competitor hang out to dry?
49.9% reporting, Debra Bowen has cut the lead to 26,000. Trail that paper.
Holy crap, there are actually 1.5% of the CA electorate that take the American Independent party seriously? God, sometimes I hate this state so freaking much.
52.7% of precincts in for CA SoS, Bowen down 37,000 votes. Dammit.
And with that, bedtime.
Is it maudlin drunk time yet? See folks, I could die tonight, it would be ok. But my lady and my dogs need me.
Sistersaralou at Nexthurrah remembers 1948 and 1960. I was gonna post last night about the 60s. I am old, so old, only Sawicky and sara are older.
The sixties had hope. The sixties were hell, and boundless disappointment, but jesus god, hope covers and suffers a ton of pain. And there was hope all the way thru. Foolish and crazy and stoned, but even at the end there was hope. A better world, a lttle more freedom, a little less hungry, a lot less war.
I haven't had much hope since about 1975. That is 31 mothering years, more years than some of ya have lived. All going to the right, always the good guys losing or merely holding serve.
The fucking house counts, beeches. The house is the country. The Prez is a gofer. I watched the house bring down one nasty tough sumbitch thirty years ago. The country turned on Nixon, and tonight the country turned against Bush.
It ain't nothing but the beginning, and there will be a lot of horrors, but I think we are in an decade of hope for the first time in thirty years. It is gonna be a fucking ruuuusssh, folks, Buckle up.
I made one more pre-bedtime check of CA SoS and now Bowen's ahead by 7000 votes with 56.9% reporting.
JESUS CHRIST DO NOT DO THIS TO ME, PEOPLE.
Who are you and what have you done with apocalyptic bob?
Apocalyptic Bob always had idealist Bob lurking around. No one becomes that cynical unless they really really care.
Well done, guys. Wonder how it would have turned out with no malfeasance.
Damn, have you not yet experienced the apocalyptic's manic phase?
If Bush really was the Antichrist, then we all got some tribulatin' to do.
282:It's a dialectectical thingie, dude. Like the 60s.
Millions die, and the world gets a little better. I am not promising a rose garden. Just some Chinese "interesting times". Which is a curse.
Bush will now attack Iran. What you think Cheney and Bush and Rove will surrender? As I have always said, politics is played at the existential limits. You bet the nation, all in or fuck off,
It is going to be hell, like no one under 60 understands hell. And you don't. You may think you do, but Iraq isn't even a war. You are about to see hell, and it will inspire and motivate and terrify beyond what you thought conceivable. I seriously expect to see dead bodies on the streets of America.
But it is counter-revolution time. And the good guys are gonna win.
Dude, Idealist Bob is harshing my election mellow.
w00t!!111!!!!!
I'm feeling pretty fucking stoked right now. and the becks-style blogging has been awesome to behold.
jesus someone talking about how this is the rise of Blue Dog democrats.
Yeah, Blue Dogs. Which would help, if you're a Potterybarnist and are looking for a draft.
CNN has 0 independents, so where are they putting Lieberman? If Webb and Tester give the Ds 51, is that an actual Democratic count or a taste the Jomentum count?
The trend for Tester is not good. He's down to a 4000 vote lead.
51 is the Joementum count. But even without him it's 50-49-1, so unless he changes to officially Repub, we still control the Senate.
Frak Jomentum, where is Sanders?
Yes, there will be clarity and defintion. The maps will reveal, tho Korzybski-wise, the map is not the reality. But the Repubs will be revealed as Dixie, and the world will recoil in horror.
I am reminded of Nicopolis, that chivalric aristocratic ideal that inpired Rumsfeld's restructuring, 1 confed beats two yanks, because of honor and glory and the right God. The Romans didn't live such bullshit, it is a christian pre-capitalism thing, the anointed aristocracy. Fucking Xenophon, cheap Greek romanticism for cotton slavers.
I should stop, but the blackjack stimulates, like exlax plus acid.
Bob's a happy drunk. Who knew?
I'm perfectly sobor, but powered by the will to procrastinate in the service of my country. I have really important things to do by tomorrow morning, but none as important as hitting refresh on CNN every 3 seconds.
Well then what in damnation is all this cnn-independencery?
OK, some food, some time away from the Southern Comfort and some time in a rendered 3-D fantasy world have made me completely and truly sober again. Did I say "chub?" Jesus, that's humiliating.
Still, woot! Good election results.
I find it most satisfying that "happy" bob is telling us there will be bodies in the streets. I don't know why.
Bowen opening up over McPherson, McNerney rolling over Pombo.
287:Nobody promised a rose garden. One doesn't get smoothies, He Who Shapes is shaped, and is tempted to romantic fantasy, and reaches to the red light. Y'all get a sword, not a shield, and that is all the difference. The sword asks for blood, and you tire, and SEK and Burke ask for bricklayers, but all you got is a sword. So you beat it to plowshares, but sealevel rising, so best is to just run your obscure allusions and mixed metphors aground, like a drunken boat selling arms in Africa.
Now is the time of the assasins. Asassins.
FOX news says republicans didn't talk about how dems=taxes enough.
99.7%. Pombo won't be able to sell you Yosemite any more.
Has anyone posted about the meetup yet, or am I the first who is forced to be awake and on my way to work? I'm never drinking again.
No time to read all comments before going to work, but I will just say that them as hates teh Greens should check out the statewide races in MN -- looks like most Greens must've split their tickets in favor of the Dems in the big races, but the jerks in the Independence party still managed to screw it all up. What really annoys me though, is that the two serious Independence party candidates, Peter Hutchinson for Gov. and Tammy Lee for House District 5, are both former DFL hacks who just came into the race as idiotic spoilers! Jesus H. Christ on a popsicle stick! You hardly ever seen the Repugs pulling shit like this! They have party discipline. We need to go back to old-school, Chicago-style, ward-heeling, get-out-the-cemetary-vote machine politics on the left or we'll never get anywhere. Jeez.
