Is there an easy way to back up my blog?
Also most blog "software" "platforms" have an "export" feature.
Ben is being obnoxious with wget. But he's right that your blog probably has a backup feature. Which platform are you using?
What's wrong with wget? I used it to make a backup of the Invisible Adjunct's site.
Is there any benefit to upgrading to Firefox 2.0?
Just download wget and use the command:
wget -asdlfkjhawetkljnasdfglkjhasdflkj [URL]
Adam is being facetious. Doing that will actually initiate a nuclear launch against Morocco.
I think your cat walked on the keyboard, Adam.
They just tease me because they like me is all.
I'm impressed that my command line didn't wind up with any semicolons in it.
(See, that makes it believeable.)
You don't recommend wget to someone who doesn't know how to back up a blog, Ben.
Adam, the only advantage of 2.0 that I've found is the automatic spell check for things like this comment box. But once I upgraded at home, I didn't also upgrade at work.
So, basically, if you know how to spell, there's no advantage.
Heebie, looks like there are a few livejournal backup apps.
"Adam, the only advantage of 2.0 that I've found is the automatic spell check for things like this comment box."
Oh, god, that was the first thing I made sure to turn off.
But, then, some people like the evil things, and all the misspellings they cause.
The 'Restore Session' function is very nice after a crash, but the fact that it has been helpful to me so many times is probably a bad sign.
Who steals my email steals trash.
Hey Ben -- can you use wget to archive password-protected stuff?
Just a general comment: Why the hell does the CTA trip planner have to start the Java runtime for no apparent purpose other than having a crawl advertising the CTA as an alternative to the Dan Ryan expressway?
Heebie, I used to be on livejournal, and I deleted my lj, but before I did, I made an LJBook. It worked quite well and suited my needs.
Speaking of backing up mail, is there any way to get the Mail program on my Mac at home to download messages from gmail that have already been downloaded with Outlook on my work computer? It doesn't seem to do this automatically, and I don't see any settings to tweak this. It must be possible, since it downloaded all of my gmail archives when I first set the thing up.
Matt, go to Settings, Pop and Forwarding, and select Download all mail.
Oh, wait, no...that's just a one-time thing, it looks like. It also gave me a duplicate copy of every message Mail already downloaded, and then reverted back to "new mail only" after it went through everything. I guess the messages on the POP server can only be accessed once. Hm. This might mean I can't use a mail client at work, at least for my personal account.
Not sure exactly what you mean, but if you set it again to download all mail and retrieve from your work client, it should grab everything again. I'm not sure there's a way around the fact that it retrieves things you've already downloaded.
My eyes keep misreading my last comment as "Oh my god, thanks!"
