You know that the first document leak will be a smeary jpeg of Obama's diploma from the al-Jihad al-thetime madrassa and technical school.
Internal Wikileak mailing list discussions leaked here and here.
Wikileaks doesn't have to be secure, it only has to reliably store information and not delete it. If it logs access, the leaker can hide their identity through
anonymous access channels like Tor.
The technology to publish something reliably and anonymously has been here for a long time. One of the safest things you can do, as a whistleblower afraid to
disclose your identity, but willing to publish very sensitive documents, is to post them to Usenet through a chain of anonymous remailers. These remailers were all the rage in cypherpunk circles in the 90ies; I hope they still exist, as last time I looked into it they were struggling to find some way to turn away spammers taking advantage of the anonymous service.
What this thread obviously needs is a link to Jessica Biel's butt in a bikini.
Or at least, that's what I think Ogged needs. But who am I to presume.
Will this provoke DRM for documents?
That's a good Daily Show item, actually: Jessica Biel's ass outpolls *all* the nominees.
They certainly talk a good talk on their site. I'm desperately curious to see document submission in action, but I'm willing to bet that, yes, it's pretty secure. It's got honeynet written all over it, sure, but if they really do make use of things like Freenet then they're serious.
That said, no way would I volunteer to be Submitter Zero.
